Quite cool as you can see. It's been a very reliable quad with a great flight capability and a stable high quality image. At this price on urlhasbeenblocked, it's a real bargain (shame that urlhasbeenblocked US warehouse doesn't offer the same price: shipping will take quite some time from China). Plus, Xiaomi just added a new accessory (a handle) to the Mi 4K that will allow to use the (detachable) drone camera as a handheld stabilized action cam: https://www.urlhasbeenb
I haven't received it yet but if this works as great as the drone does, it will be a tremendous bonus. The Mi drone app is already updated and allows you to choose between piloting the drone or using the handheld camera system.
My pros and cons for the Xiaomi mi drone 4k so far:
Pros:
- Best value for the money in its category (consumer 4K camera drones)
- Steady drone even in high winds
- Very stable image and great video quality.
- Good flight time (around 20-22 min, I got up to 24 minutes in very rare occasions)
- Foldable / can fit in a non bulky backpack (I use the caden W8 [urlhasbeenblocked.com], and it's awesome)
- The camera / gimbal is detachable [urlhasbeenblocked.com] and is easily replaceable if broken. Actually, a lot of the drones parts seem easy to replace.
- The app is quite intuitive (and speaks English with a charming subtle Chinese accent
- The camera can be used as a handheld gimbal camera (still have to test how good this system works though)
Cons
- Very loud (can still hear it even when it's at least 300 meters away...)
- Somehow heavy to carry (especially if you take several spare batteries in the same backpack)
- Quite large (larger than a P4) and no obstacle detection system, so flying in tight spots (through a window or a hole for a dramatic reveal shot for instance) can be risky.
- No follow me mode. There have been rumors about this function being implemented since the drone was released, but Xiaomi haven't done anything about it yet... Without this kind of tracking, some modes, like orbit or dronie, are difficult to set accurately and don't work on moving objects (there are some orbit shots in the footage I shared).
- Only a handful of accessories available (gimbal cover, controller protection, prop guards, 3 in 1 charger, bags etc.) / the lack of dedicated lens covers is a real bummer, even though I real that some guys managed to adapt some Yuneec lens covers.
- The drone automatically slows down if the battery is below 30%. I get that it's a safety system but I'd really like to be able to deactivate this function sometimes...
Hope that helps.
Cheers
They are larger in this app than DJIs and most people on the RC forums have had no luck with Xiaomi removing them.
You can check the NFZ in the app with no drone connected.
I have 2 municipal airports near me, that I can fly around if I contact them, that I COULD NOT fly around, with this drone, even with her permission. It literally won't even start the rotors in my own yard. No thanks.

Sample footage seems to be right along the lines of a Phantom 3 Pro - these are from people from the previous thread posting to youtube:

Some split screen footage with DJI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW-RgHe0dJ8
Overall I'm just happy DJI is getting a little legitimate competition. All others have been well below DJI quality in all regards. This thing actually looks promising. At least it may make DJI step up their quality control and time for repairs, especially when they send something DOA.
Phantom 3 professional would be the best head to head comparison. Phantom has better range, but the Xiaomi keeps a position better. Judging by videos on YouTube I'd say the Xiaomi has the better camera. If I didn't already have the P3P I'd be all over this.
