I used to have this router/modem combo and only used it as a modem with the router part deactivated since I use an AirPort Extreme for my router. At first it worked fine but after a year it began to overheat and shut off the internet for 10 second intervals randomly. Eventually I decided that there might be something wrong with the modem and bought a used Motorola Surfboard 8X Modem only device for $10. All I can is that with the modem only unit, I haven't had a single instance of overheating nor any internet spikes. I'd say stay away from this unit if you can and buy something that will be much more reliable in the long run.

I went to Walmart that shows 8 in stock, got there and asked him about and he said there would be probably some in the back but I am really not gonna go there and look, it is the mess before black Friday !!

I told him I have been driving for almost an hour to get one and he was like " oh sorry!!", that is it and moved away without helping me!!
