Not much of deal when compared to what FreedomPop offers. If you use Google voice and FP with an ATT phone, then you will get about the same amount of data and probably similar speeds but it's free.

Talk and text on an Android phone. Sign up for a number at voice.google.com, download Google Hangouts and Hangouts Dialer in your phone and then you'll be able to send and receive calls and texts without limits. All you have to do is monitor your data usage with the FreedomPop app and you won't be charged a thing. You have to be careful and read the unsubscribe instructions for FreedomPop to ensure you aren't signed up for any plans other than the free plan

FreedomPop has sleazy tactics and generally poor service when it works at all.

Google voice does not have mms. You're missing the ability to group texts and send photos if you go this route

(For the record I never considered FP is good enough as your only service. I have too many FP accounts btw. All are supplemental use only. And for that purpose I am happy with what I got and I don't mind if they rip me off a cent here and there. Those who think using Data+GV is good enough as your only service is just fooling themselves ... my opinion.)
Now just want to let you know that noone should be using Google voice now for messaging. You use Hangout for SMS/MMS/Photo/Video/Group Chat. All working fine.
You go to GVoice's settings and select "Connect Hangout" to route all messaging thru Hangout. You need to have Hangout+Hangout Dialer anyway.
One very happy Red Pocket CDMAV customer here using a Vzn Moto E4. Would recommend any of these Ebay annual packages to anyone looking to start a service.
Actually Google Voice *does* have MMS. When did you last check? You can send/receive MMS at least using the Android app.
No ... he is correct. With the Google Voice App alone (no messaging integration into Hangout) ... you cannot receive MMS.
You can forward the MMS to your gmail account is about the most you can do.
Please read my post above. Noone should be using GV as messaging anymore. Use Hangout. Period.

No, he's NOT correct. MMS works with GV app. Since January of this year, in fact. Do not use bloated Hangouts, as the GV app will work perfectly fine for basic usage.

Ok sorry for my misinformation then as I have moved over to hangout for a long time already. Educate me if you will ... Why would I want to switch back to GV app from Hangout?? Any gain/miss??

If you're happy with Hangouts, you won't gain anything by switching. If you're not a Hangouts fan, you can get all the basic phone functions using just the GV app.
