Would a house having a septic tank and well water turn you away from buying?

When I was a kid we had a house with a septic tank and well water...but as you all know that was eons ago Stick Out Tongue

I have heard of some horror stories of having to replace the septic tank and it being pretty expensive to do.

I did Google _ for all of you who may have been ready to post the lmgtfy link... and read how you are supposed to take care of them and not add any strain on the tank by not putting coffee grounds down the disposal, no grease from pans, no antibacterial soaps to be used..showers held to like 10 minutes etc.

Sounds like a PITA actually and although I found a nice house that I like.. I am thinking of skipping any with septic and well...

Any personal insights here in the knowledge well we call the lounge?

it all depends on where you want to buy. Areas that are on well and septic tend to be in more rural areas here in Colorado so if that is what you want then that is what you get for the most part.

If you have regular suburban areas with well and septic and those without you will probably find the homes are older too.....

Having city water and sewer hooked up to a house would just mean that it is located far too close to a populated area for my taste.

As it is I sometimes wish I had picked a place even more secluded rather than in the small subdivision I did pick. But at least I got away from the city life (population about 6,500laugh out loud ) and am now about 8 miles outside of town.

Nice! We intended go to the Columbia Gorge this summer but some kid tossed a firecracker into the brush on a creek near Multnomah Falls and they almost lost the whole thing including the bridge! The fire crews did an amazing job considering what they were up against. It's not open yet but they hope to be open before the end of 2017.

hehe as to the "oil down the drain"... I don't fry things but when I bake Bea's dinner...chicken thighs...I put some olive oil on them and that means gunk in the pan after...so I run hot water and yeah ... down the drain.
So.. guess that means I'd have to start pouring it all in the trash with a bunch of paper towels or something.

I found out that the community well isn't like a dozen houses but the whole city... which makes me a bit more comfortable (possibly falsely so)..and I am getting more "ok" with the idea of the "dual septic"... just have to wrap my head around dealing with it.

Now.. I find the bylaws of the HOA (small fee quarterly Stick Out Tongue ) do seem prohibitive..and almost made me unlove the house all over again. But am trying to remind myself I don't typically do any of the things they restrict. lol Only 2 dogs allowed per house, can't cut down any tree with a circ. wider than 8 inches (above a 4 foot mark) without approval.. can't cover wood siding with vinyl etc... blah I hate being told what to do laugh out loud
Have to keep the grass in a somewhat uniform length as the rest... :rolleyes;

but then all of those things.. keep the neighborhood looking nice.. I know. ugh. I really like the master bedroom/bath on the entry level and those are so hard to find.....

And since my belongings still haven't arrived in MI... maybe I can get a deal done and have them just fricking deliver my stuff there hahah dammmmit.

They probably have it for sale on craigslist somewhere. It might be quicker to just locate your stuff and buy it back and get it delivered by someone else. laugh out loud

Since I am getting somewhat serious about a house.. I decided to email the stupid movers and tell them if my stuff is still in Kansas then I might want them to just hold it a month. Of course they just called to tell me it's already loaded on the truck and on the way.. should be here tomorrow or the next day... Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) convenient lol
(they got iot as far as their Kansas warehouse over a week ago)...

We currently in a house with a septic tank and recently converted to city water from a well. Having 1 acre of yard, it cost me about $60 to water my lawn every 3 days for 30 minutes each. We recently switched over to the city water and I'm not looking forward to see the bill for next spring.

No issue with the septic so far (knock on wood), we did pump it out last Fall. Will have to do it this upcoming Spring. Cost a few hundred bucks each time.
Where do they take your septic water?

Personally I bought my current house 9 years ago and haven't done anything with the septic system other than the time the line to it from the house froze because I cleared too much snow off of the ground above it.
Annoyed I blame this thread for the line to my septic tank being frozen today.

laugh out loud sorry... if it makes you feel any better.. misery loves company and all that...
That first house had sat on the market for 3 months.. apparently no interest. I worked out a deal.. they accepted, I signed.. was told they were signing.. then last minute bid came in..ok.. saw several more houses.. finally found one I really like (again).. work out a price.. had the inspection yesterday... mold in the roof boards.. like 50% of the area.
I have a gut feeling they will offer to have it mitigated but not replaced (roof is 18-19 years old), water heater is way past life span.. and furnace etc are all original like the roof so I already know I'd have some big out of pocket expenses. If they won't replace the roof.. I am walking away Sadwalk

That sounds far more miserable than my little frozen drain line. hug
If that one doesn't work out maybe the next one you find will be even better.

For my problem I had it all done in less than two hours and most of that was rounding up the needed equipment from my shop and clearing the snow off of the septic tank cleanout. About twenty minutes of actual work with my pressure washer and the $100 sewer jetter hose I bought seven years ago (which was still new in the package) and it was all opened up again. After that it was just putting everything away and covering up the tank with snow again.

I'm glad you got it all fixed.

I keep trying to tell myself that the right one will work out like it's supposed to.
And I lost out on a few back in Vegas before I found the perfect one..I'm just tired of it all. laugh out loud
It's been a long few months in the whole process.
