This isn't the failing Best Buy from 5 years ago. Best Buy has to compete with the online marketplace if they want to survive and as such, is very swift on its feet with price matching, flash sales, invitation-only promotions.....everything you see from the likes of Amazon, Newegg, B&H, etc. I used to hate going to Best Buy....stale product selection...poor product knowledge from staff....all the elements of a failing brick & mortar franchise. But if you haven't been lately, I'll let you know that they now keep all the latest products....emerging tech such as Smart Home and wearable.....plenty of staff everywhere who are well trained in their areas, and most importantly prices that are the same as online retailers so I don't have to leave and buy elsewhere. U wouldn't be surprised to see Amazon prices fluctuate throughout the day....BB is now the same.

I do not work for Best Buy and have no affiliation besides spending alot there and therefore being an Elite-Plus member.... I'm only posting this bc its seems that you're thinking of the "old" best buy

$10 more than two days ago, but still tempting. I missed out on ordering a second one last time (first one was a white label)

It is more but honestly in the long run if you need the drives, you need them. Plus if they go back down, you can have BB PM

What the hell is best buy doing? Alternating days when the same item is on sale? Seems they have no clue what they are doing and just spinning a wheel and seeing what it lands on.

Just don't go in looking for a decent Ethernet switch or other networking product. Over the years they have reduced their networking aisle to just a bunch of WIFI routers and a few other miscellaneous items. It really amazed me when I went in one day while on a job looking for a decent switch (something other than a $39 plastic box) and ZILCH. Many times I go in looking for even some of the most basic networking parts, and am amazed they don't stock it.

It's more exciting than their "Doorbuster" for today on Samsung phones that's only for Verizon and Sprint customers!

The temptation to pick up a few more is great...but no whites! Wink

So you can't find a simple unmanaged 5 or 8 port switch at any Best Buy? Honest question bc I don't shop for networking there.

We must remember that it's a consumer electronics store though...so it wouldn't be feasible for them to stock Cisco managed switches and routers in store. But I bet they have them online and ready to ship (guessing again). All I was saying is that BB has changed "bigly" and they are now competitive in the new online-focued marketplace.

For a consumer electronics store, I'd call "basic" networking this:

Various length Ethernet cables
5 & 8 port unmanaged switch
Many Wi-Fi routers from all major consumer vendors
Wifi adapters

Intermediate:
Kit with bulk Ethernet cable, crimper, rj-45s
Power line networking (I think they have)
16 or 24 port "smart" switch (semi-managed)

What didn't they have that u were hunting?

You would find one or two cheap plastic box 5 port switches. There is no choice. And I'm not expecting them to stock managed Cisco switches, but like Staples or Office Depot, stock some decent Netgear or Linksys/Cisco 8 or 16 port or metal box switches. And switches are just an example. They really have taken what was an aisle or two of networking products and scaled back to a 1/3 of an aisle.

This seems to be the one they keep in store, based on a quick search and checking what's available for pickup today near me. I know that switch is metal because I've used the smaller 5 and 8 port versions of it.

I probably sound like a spokesman, but I'm really just a satisfied customer. Sometimes it feels nice to pickup something u want hands on the same day, and not have to pay more for it the way it used to be. I'm glad they're competing now. My server is also happy with all the 8tb drives

If you have a Fry's near u I bet you'd find your switch. I love that place!
