I wanted to get the Mirena but my insurance doesn't cover it. The doc wants $900 to put it in Faint No way I can afford it. Gonna get on the pill possibly, although at this point whats the point since I'm not even having sex with anyone.
Figure it covers you for 5 years and it works out to $15/month. Start saving a little bit here and there and you'll be there before you know it.

I'm getting it done next week. It's covered by my insurance (huge surprise) but it's still nearly $500 for me. The pill costs me $20/mo, so I'm pretty much making money on the deal in the long run. It works out to about $8/mo for me OOP.

Crylol Omg that's too funny! I started wearing pads the last month of my pregnancy bc I was afraid I was gonna pee my pants. Then the night my freaking water breaks I didn't have a pad on. Thank godness I was laying on blanket and nothing got on the couch laugh out loud

I'm sooooo not looking forward to my monthly friend. Maybe it will stop again for you thrifty.

Holy milk supply batman! My boobs were sooooooooooooo swollen! I was able to express alot of milk today thank goodness and they are better. I tried bfing lillian but she keeps getting frustrated bc she can't latch on properly. I think I'll just stick with formula since I'll be going back to work in 5 weeks and I don't have a pump,or the money to buy a pump. I was sooo excited to be able to sleep on my tummy but I can't yet bc of these giant balloons!

Baby pics from last night. Lillian was 6 days old!!!
She is soooooooo stinking cute! Not sure if it's the jaundice or if she's gonna be a tan baby. She looks like she could be BFF's with LJ. Teehee

Sorry about the painful fun bags Frown Did your doc give you anything to help ya or offer any advice for relief when drying up?

If you are expressing for relief be careful of expressing to much as your body will react as that as a demand and supply more. I do suggest that whatever you express you put in a bottle or mix with her formula and feed Lilly until you are dried up, no sense wasting it.

I can't believe she is nearly a week old. I was thinking today that on Sunday LJ will be 2 mos...where the hell did the time go? Before you know it he'll be all grown up Frown. My GF has a 6 mo old and when she held LJ she said, OMG I want another, I miss the itty bitty baby stage. laugh out loud Then again her girl is 16 lbs and has roll upon roll upon roll. She is a solid baby Teehee

I am a bad mommy, I guess at week 7 LJ should be rolling over at least in one direction. I have no idea which direction though. Well, we either hold him (I seriously feel like all I do is nurse him and I gotta hold him to nurse), he's in his vibrating rocker seat or he's swaddled on his back. We are doing some floor time now. He's not all that happy with it though. Yeah, everything I learned with my 14 yo is out the friggin window.

Wow Alexa is really advancing! That'd be neat if she does continue to do it. You'll have a genius on your hands!!

She's going to be a tan/red baby. Her dad came up to the hospital to see her and when he walked in I almost facepalmed myself. He's red in color, like actually red,I'm not kidding. She's got his coloring and I completely forgot about his skin coloring. She looks like and indian baby with her red skin and black hair laugh out loud

I expressed for relief while in the shower bc my boobs went into let down mode. They haven't filled back up yet though Smilie I tried again tonight to bf her and she'll latch on and get about 2 good gulps but then pulls away. It's soooooo frustrating Frown

Time is flying by huh Thrifty? I can't believe it,but I'm loving having my baby here with me Smilie

I'm completely in love with her

So I finally made it to the fabric store to make my own faux Moby wrap. I heart it and so does LJ. When he's awake and alert he likes to try to eat the fabric while he's swiveling his head around checking out the world. When he's sleepy, he puts his head on my chest and crashes out.

I just got a sling I ordered from fleabay and regret buying it. In the wrap he is snug as a bug in a rug!

Yes I know my camera phone is covering my face...I want LJ to be the focal point of the pic. Teehee

I got 5 yards of a jersey knit since it was $3.99/yd and since it was 60" wide I had to cut it in half. I have 2 out of the fabric I bought. The cotton knit I really wanted was $12.99/yd and the SDer in me did not want to drop that kind of cash. I mean I would have saved $ if I just bought the *real* thing. Sure the jersey knit is polyester (like the black dresses, tops and pants you find in the store) but is has enough stretch and was the right price and it's no sew since the edges won't fray or curl. I just tie that wrap on me tight to keep him so close! My back was killing me from carrying around a teeny baby all day so I thought babywearing was ingenious!

PM me your addy and I will send you the other half with instructions from the Moby site. hug

I have a small/narrow crotch and haaaaaate wearing pads, they crinkle and fold in half. Even with my very 1st period I had my mom get me tampons cause the pad I was given from my bff was totally disgusting to me. After childbirth I prefer using diapers to pads for the heavy stuffs.

I stopped bleeding after a couple of babies at 3/4 wks then restarted spotting/lite at about 6/8 weeks but I dont think it was my actual cycle starting although I did get pregnant while still BFing #3...but lost that one shortly into it.

Im getting the mirena at my 6 week -- does the period stop with the IUD? :fingers crossed:
I've had the Mirena for 2.5 years and haven't had a period at all (I was taking the Depo shot before but ended up with blood clots in my lungs from it.) I heart the Mirena!

Jengo, I've also heard that there's now a 10-year version of the Mirena. I'm sure it would cost more up front, but it would equal out to less per month than the 5 year, if you're looking for that long of coverage.

I also heard that wearing really tight sports bras after expressing milk will help keep them from filling back up? That's what my doc said to do if you're trying to stop bfing. Dontknow Sounds ouchy to me!

Jengo I just googled "how to stop breast milk production" and found these were the tips in most of the result sites.

Quote :
5 Tips to Help You Feel Better
(And Reduce Your Milk Supply)

1. Eliminate one pumping session each three to four days. Express only enough milk as needed for comfort. This gradual weaning from the pump gives your body a chance to adjust to the decrease in stimulation.

2. Apply cold cabbage compresses. Placing "compresses" inside each cup of your bra will also help to make you more comfortable. Reapply refrigerated cabbage leaves about every two hours, or as they wilt, until your milk supply slows. This is a good treatment for severe engorgement. Often moms feel relief in as little as two hours (Breastfeeding: A Guide for the Medical Profession, Ruth Lawrence, MD, 1994). You can continue this treatment as needed.

3. Do not bind your breasts. This is an outdated practice, can be very uncomfortable and may lead to a plugged duct or even a breast infection. Wear a comfortable, but supportive all-cotton bra that won't restrict your circulation. A sports bra may be perfect for you at this time, but be sure it isn't uncomfortably snug.

4. Take something for the pain. Try a pain reliever that is compatible with nursing. Get the okay from your care provider before using acetominophen or ibuprofen.

5. Try ice. Ice can help to reduce swelling and may help you to remain more comfortable as your milk supply is decreasing. A bag of frozen peas for each breast works well (but don't eat the peas, since you will be defrosting and refreezing.) Ice your breasts for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, at least four times each day, or as needed for comfort.
Quote :
1. Cabbage leaves

This is one of the traditional ways to relieve engorgement and stop milk production. You just have to place a chilled cabbage inside your bra. The cold cabbage is amazingly soothing, not to mention effective. Make sure the cabbage is just the right amount in size and in coldness. Simply replace them with new ones when they start to warm up.

Cabbage leaves can also be placed over areas of mastitis as you continue feeding. Another effective way to relieve mastitis is to drain the breast by manually expressing the milk. While doing this, massage the lumps. If your breasts become hot or lumpy, and you experience nausea or fever, call your doctor immediately.

2. Sage tea

Sage tea is made by mixing a tablespoon of dried herb in a cup of boiling water. This should be taken two to six times a day to take effect in stopping milk production. If you find it distasteful then try eating it with another food.

3. Spearmint and Peppermint

This is an alternative to sage tea, if in any case you cannot tolerate the taste. Many women find that this tastes better, and some say that eating large quantities is effective.

4. Chickweed, Yarrow, Lemon Balm, Sorrel and Oregano

These have already been used in the past for reducing the production of milk. Its essential oils can even be an alternative to massage oil and can be used in massaging the breast to relieve pain and engorgement.

I'm thinking that as long as she's hand expressing her supply will dry up gradually enough to prevent infection. The key is to remove just enough to get comfortable.

I had to stop breastfeeding my daughter due to her cleft lip - the cabbage REALLY worked!! It felt wonderful. Okay felt and looked ODD but at the same time felt great. My lactation consultant told me not to express milk, that it would make it take longer to dry up. I can't remember how long it took but I sure hope it happens quickly for you! Smilie

I hand expressed an ounce of the boob juice last night and gave it to lillian with her bottle. My boobs haven't filled back up any yet and they are very soft and comfortable now. Crossing finger I didn't jinx myself and they swell up to mellons again Roll That'd be just my luck.

I'll talk to my doc about the 10 year Mirena, maybe they can give me more info on it. I need to find out if a pharmacy carries the mirena bc my insurance will pay for the mirena if I can get it at a pharmacy.I'm debating on just getting my tubes tied. I seriously doubt that I'll ever find a lasting relationship and I don't want to be a single mom of 4 kids Frown
