Fire 10 HD in-store only $99

Picked up a Fire 10 HD in-store at Staples yesterday for $99. Sign said limited-time deal, so not sure how long it lasts.

Wife needed a new tablet, saw this posted via Google's shopping lists, but not on Staples site. Went into the store, and, sure enough, it was $99..

Sharing in case anyone else needs one last-minute and missed the previous $99 deals.

Does this mean Android can be installed on it?

It already runs Android, just an older 5.1 version that is heavily skinned. Root is helpful if you want to disable some built in apps, install ad blockers, and so other things. I stopped rooting my phones since Nougat as it has most of what I need, but I did root this tablet

FireOS is a skin, it's not an OS. The tablet runs Android with FireOS skin. If you are talking about custom ROMs i.e. Cyanogenmod/ Lineage/ etc, that's not possible and will most likely never be possible because the bootloader remains locked. And even if development advances, it will be stuck running Android Lollipop because bootloader cannot be updated to run anything newer without losing root. In other words, if you need a pure android tablet, look elsewhere, this is not the one for you, but if you just need to install play store and google apps, this will do just fine with some light hacking

Thanks. I'm probably going to get rid of it. The interface is terrible. And no widgets sucks.

You can install Nova launcher and disable the original launcher with root. That'll give you widgets and make it look more stock
