Wife needed a new tablet, saw this posted via Google's shopping lists, but not on Staples site. Went into the store, and, sure enough, it was $99..

It already runs Android, just an older 5.1 version that is heavily skinned. Root is helpful if you want to disable some built in apps, install ad blockers, and so other things. I stopped rooting my phones since Nougat as it has most of what I need, but I did root this tablet

FireOS is a skin, it's not an OS. The tablet runs Android with FireOS skin. Thanks. I'm probably going to get rid of it. The interface is terrible. And no widgets sucks.

You can install Nova launcher and disable the original launcher with root. That'll give you widgets and make it look more stock
