Where we have been discussing this deal before it got posted as a separate deal:

Start at #818 page 55
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99?page=55

You can find camera information on the main page there as well as additional information to install and setup this system.

From that Costco 4k lorex deal wiki:

Goal: To get the best value in a security system which is reliable.
With this system ( Lorex Kit Model number: LNR6826K
this is the Costco kit deal ) imho you have a great deal with a good set of hardware and the ability to augment this with 2 additional cameras.
It will require some DIY(*) learning and configuration as do most professional and pro-consumer security products require if you are not hiring professional installers and service.

( * - please see the discussion for numerous reports that Costco services and Lorex appear to be unable to assist in some of the setup questions people have had. We may have to go to various online forums to find answers and solutions. Once installed you should expect excellent reliability. )

Security Camera System Minimal Viable Product requirements:
  • 1) It must be Reliable.
  • 2) It must be able to capture good enough images to potentially ID suspects.
  • 3) It must be useful for evidence. [ thus date and time stamps are critical ]

..
The system listed in this deal also meets all of the minimal viable product requirements, and as it is based on IP standards and not locked into a cloud service offering thus you can augment the setup and use 3rd party software and hardware with it.
The kit listed here is similar to the Costco kit - principle difference is this NVR is larger, has more PoE ports ( 16 vs 8 ), another fan, room for 2 HDDs,.. vs the Costco kit which comes with a great Costco return policy.
There is no vendor lock in.

New to security cameras:

I've shared a lot of what I have learned in the last year in the wikis here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99
and
https://slickdeals.net/f/10731663-security-camera-security-camera-system-black-friday-2017-master-list

1fps vs 4fps vs 7fps vs 10fps vs 15fps vs 30fps
Most professional security installations run cameras at <=15fps to reduce storage space.
If you need more fps you can augment this kit with additional cameras.

Junction Boxes:
Recommend getting a junction box for these:

You can make one - please see the link bguy provides,

OR

purchase from Lorex ( remember to use your discount code )
https://www.lorextechnology.com/site/S1JF2G-1-p

OR

find another seller selling the Dahua PFA121 junction box.
( hint - for the best price, but slow shipping - you can look at aliexpress )

Quote from bguy :
.. You might want to consider a junction box like this: https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/bul...box.22431/
.
Thanks Bguy!

Are you getting a decoding error message when attempting to display multiple 4K streams:

Interesting article that explains the error seen by Masterslick. Applies to any system, not just this one.

" .. ( NRVS) are not manufactured with a dedicated graphics card, the processor must handle all computing"

"..the NVR, it first allocates processor time to recording live footage. The rest of the available processor time is used for playback, live view, remote monitoring, and other functions. The recording processor time is reserved, and the NVR displays channels starting at the first selected until the cap is reached. When the cap is reached the NVR will stop displaying video on the remaining channels and display this exception instead."

wow 8MP, that's a lot of bandwidth. 4MP camers are only 2688x1520 so 3840x2160 is amazing.... Which is pretty crazy since I'm pushing around 7168kbps on my 4MP camera so I would assume this is roughly double 14Mbps? Again, a lot of bandwidth and disk space. 3TB might not last that long
From their Q&A:

2TB hard drive - 6 Cameras recording 4K video 24/7 at 15FPS is about 2 to 3 days
4TB hard drive - 6 Cameras recording 4K video 24/7 at 15FPS is about 4 to 5 days
8TB hard drive - 6 Cameras recording 4K video 24/7 at 15FPS is about 9 to 10 days
12TB hard drive - 6 Cameras recording 4K video 24/7 at 15FPS is about 13 to 15 days

Hi WPC,

Actually not so simple, as when you use H.264 or H.265 there is compression used to reduce bandwidth. You can see the specs of the cameras in the following thread, iirc the max is about 10Mbps:

https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

You can find camera information there as well as additional information to install and setup this system.

I saw a review say 3 cameras lasted 2 weeks. I would estimate ~5 days with this unless motion activation is used.

Hi JodlRodl,

Note a lot will depend on what you are recording, if the scene is not changing much you'll get some really good compression.

The nice thing about this kit, is that there is room for a 2nd HDD!

So that is a big bonus compared to many of the other kits we have seen listed here this past BF - cyberweek.

This is a very good deal. If you are interested in it, I would recommend picking it up ASAP.

I got the one from Costco. Bought 2 additional cameras to make 8 4K total.

But the NVR in the costco package, can only expand up to 6TB.

I wish this deal came up sooner, I would prefer this NVR over the costco package. I can throw in more storage on this NVR.
