PSA: Google Opinion Rewards credits now expiring after 1 year from being earned. Balances already over 1 year being wiped (for some)

I know this is not a deal but figured I would start it off here for the most exposure. Mods feel free to move this to talk. To those of you who use the Google Opinion Rewards app on Android the rules used to always be that ALL your earned credit would expire 1 year from YOUR LAST COMPLETED SURVEY. I've been doing the program for over 2 years and never had credits expire as I constantly respond to the surveys.

In the last month or so it appears Google quietly changed the terms to make credits expire 1 year from BEING EARNED no matter if you are active or not. In addition, all earned credits over a year are being wiped. The rewards app makes no mention of this, the play website makes no mention of this, but apparently in the play store app it tells you when the next expiration will be (Google chat reps sometimes tell people this date is not correct and points will expire 1 year from the last survey). I lost about $50 in credit this afternoon out of nowhere due to this issue. I had to contact google play support and convince them to reinstate my balance and extend it another year.

If you have an older than 1 year balance check your expiration date. Please note that the expiration date may not be correct and your points may not expire. The only way to really know is to chat with Google and ask them to confirm. If you already lost your balance, contact them and ask them to reinstate your balance and extend the expiration for another year. Use the chat feature as phone reps don't seem willing to help. Chat might not work from mobile device: https://support.google.com/google...ic=3364260

Balance expiry data via Android: Play Store App; Account; Payment Methods

Rewards History via Android: Rewards App; hamburger; Reward History

Purchase History via Chrome: play.google.com; Account; Payment Methods (scroll down)

Yes, this begins to reveal the depth of their tracking issues...

The attached message is now in the app and the following sections of the help center. I've been led to believe all the bulk expiration of points from the time when the old terms were in place will be restored. All new points earned since 11/2018 expire 1 year after they are earned with no extension for taking new surveys.

There is a reward history section in my app that tells me exactly when an amount was earned. And I thought the one year expiry was common knowledge

As the post says, it used to be applied as 1 year from the last completed survey, not when the credit was earned. Google's product page used to have that verbiage as well but has since been quietly changed to 1 year from earned. I wondered about the expiration myself some time ago and came across the thread I posted above. Saw that the rep said 1 year from completed survey, I then found it on the Google page and thought I was good to go.... until today.

It appears they are hitting people at random times. There are a few reddit posts about this as well. Check your expiration date in your play account (from the app not the website) and/or confirm with support when yours will expire.

I wonder what order the credit is taken. I added some Google play gift cards when they were 10% off the other day and will use them to pay for play music bill. I'm hoping that they take the survey money first, or at least do first in first out so that my old credit will go out.

Thanks...any way to easily check if they've already hit us? I redeemed since a year ago

My app shows the reward history but not an expiration date.

Frequency of the surveys depends on your location, how much you travel in a day, and other factors I don't know. Do you have location services turned on?

Weird, here are my credits:

i have $37 left.
my history say i earned $51 total.

so doing the math, I should look at the credits I earned when I only had $14. Those are all the "new" credit.

The last one is on 07/2015. So that is more than a year for sure.

if they changed this rule recently then I think it started at the beginning of 2017. So how can I tell when my credit will expire?

I've been doing them for over 4 years (well, 3 as Google messed up my payments account for a year) but I've earned almost $90. my wife has earned over $160 in 4 years

It actually should re-up for another year every time you do another survey (as per the TOS). I saw mine was expiring recently so I contacted Google and they confirmed the date, a year from the last time I did a survey. I confirmed the date when I checked my rewards history. They said if anything was taken from my account to contact them and they'd refund it. They're calling it "a system glitch", which is bs imho, but those who don't realize will probably be SOL.

Fwiw, even though the date said 12/9/17, nothing was taken from my account.

$96.14 since Sept. 2014.

Current balance $2.96 😔

No worries here, I can't even recall what I spent it on.
