If you get a wreck while you were speeding, the video will show you were going above the speed limit which will cause trouble.
GPS is absolutely unnecessary on a dash cam

It seems it would be very useful if someone pulls out in front of you, then claims you were speeding or something like that. But I could also see it being used against me. Me doing 48mph in a 45mph and having that thrown back in my face.
And anybody got comments on the DR01 vs the DR02? The DR01 has a larger screen and yet retails for a few bucks less. Only other difference I can see is how they mount to the windshield, which is personal preference.

I've had a dash cam in one of our two cars for a while and it has no GPS/speed data. I've pulled and reviewed footage from it on multiple occasions without ever having wished I had that information - YET. At that same time I haven't had any instances where the footage I pulled was for anything legal, or for something like an accident. BUT...
That being said, I just installed a newly purchase unit (the ever popular A119 model) with the GPS option about 2 weeks ago and pulled some footage from it a few days ago because some jackass pulled out in front of me when they clearly didn't have enough time. You could tell this from watching the footage alone but actually seeing my speed go from 47 (in a 45) before they pulled out down to around 15 because of what they did prompted me to add some curse words while reviewing it after the fact.
I think the info would be helpful more often than not if you need to pull that footage. As far as being self-incriminating, you're really not going to get dinged for going a few mph over the limit. And if you're recording yourself breaking the law in a worse way than that, either don't (speed so often) or don't get the GPS option and incriminate yourself.
If you do get the GPS option you can turn it off (should be able to).
Be safe out there either way.
I just hope there's enough room between the review mirror and the windshield
