This is a good option for those who like local storage options for their doorbell cams.
It is a new product, I first saw it mentioned fall 2017.
How would you connect an NVR, etc to it? can it be connecting to home automation hubs, such as Smartthings?
Ring Pro is a nice product, however iirc it is completely tied to a successful round trip to the ring cloud service for functionality and there is no rtsp feed available locally. ( if someone knows how to get a local rtsp video feed from the Ring Pro or other ring products please let us know ).
Since Ring had a major outage during Halloween 2017, where numerous people reported trick or treaters coming to the door and the chime failing to ring on a doorbell press - that is a bit of a significant problem.
So, I would say - YES a video doorbell product which is not dependent on cloud connectivity for the chime to work IS much better

Can we buy any of them (I saw some RCAs for cheaper on ebay) and apply Hik firmware and all end up with the same unit?
Or are there actually differences across all the rebadging?

Good questions - from what I have read, I got the impression that the firmware is basically the same w/only slight differences for branding and maybe user/password stuff
There's actually Dahua OEM video intercom doorbells which maybe worth checking out, as that in theory should be more compatible imho.
This Hikvision OEM video doorbell looks like a good one, and people have reported that they were able to get it to work with the Lorex NVR. Don't recall if they are using ONVIF setting on it, you'd have to pop over to ipcamtalk and see what has been shared on it.
It'd seem as if you were being paid to do it. I know nobody on Slickdeals would ever think of ways of making a profit or anything, but it certainly seems that way.
Either way you're efficient at driving sales.

Pretty crappy to throw that accusation around considering you have zero proof.
