Drinking Water - Most economical option?

I'm a single health conscious guy and wanted to know what everyone here think is the most economical option for drinking water. The water in my condo tastes like crap. I've even had plumbers tell me not to drink city water. I have a costco membership, sometimes will buy case of bottled water or just drink from my pur water filter jug. Is it more economical for me to continue to drink from my pur water filter jug, bottled water, or shpuld I invest in a water dispenser and buy the huge galls of water from lowes / home depot? I go through a lot of water.

Oh, and at the risk of being helpful (I'll go with conceit, since it was my answer) I'll say tap water, with a filter. Obviously, bottled water is expensive and who wants to drink out of plastic all day? Even at .98/gallon for spring water from Walmart, the 6000 gallons that my undersink filter will produce, for $15, is far cheaper. Our water tastes great. The filter is tucked away and not a space hog like a water dispenser or cases of bottles. It was super easy to install and the filters are easy to change. And you don't have to worry about how your water has been stored.

Maybe look into buying a water conditioner\softener\chlorination for the whole house.

When I was a kid the water here smelled like a pool(heavily, HEAVILY chlorinated). It's gotten better over the last 20-30 years.

But back then it was a choice between the pool water coming out of the tap or getting the shits from the giardia in it when it was untreated.

Of course I've never understood how people can drink spring water either. You know the old joke about a bear shitting in the woods? Multiple that with all the OTHER animals shitting and pissing in the woods and imagine all that tasty goodness leeching down into the ground water at some point. yummyvomit

Yeah. I'll stick to nasty tasting city water that may at times give off an odor of chlorine. Wink
