You did it wrong. And applying with your SSN had nothing to do with your decline. Don't pretend to have an elaborate business that you can't back up - even if you can stretch it to seem kinda plausible.

What you should have done (and could do in 30 days if you wish to reapply) is to simply apply as a "Sole Proprietor". From that point, pick a category/subcategory that makes sense for you, put minimal levels of income and years in business. I have gotten 3 Chase business cards doing exactly that (2 using my SSN, the 3rd with an EIN), as have a large number of other people - oddly enough, it is easier to get approved following those steps than for legitimate small business owners applying for their businesses.
That one has an annual fee and requires $5k spending from what I can see, but the CB and bonus amount are indeed better.
When I signed up years ago, basic Ebay sellers were viewed as a business. Today YMMV but I still have the card.

One thing to know, the buyer protections granted to customers of non-business VISA cards may not come with the business card. You may want to check carefully before using this card for higher risk purchases.

I asked the same question, was given the same response. I applied with my SSN and it asks all kinds of business-related questions. How much revenue your business makes per year, what industry you're in, etc etc. I just pretended my wife was paying me rent each month and said I was in real estate. Got declined and my credit score is 800+. And no, I'm not over/close to the 5/24 rule or any other frequent user rule they may have. I attributed it to me using my social in place of a tax ID.

Just applied for ink preferred for myself and for my wife. Put zero effort into bullshitting them, my business name was my own name, I make $1/yr, used my SSN, etc... I was approved and my wife was pending review.

This is a great deal on that card.

My wife has both this card and the Ink Business Preferred under her name, so yes you can have both.

Anyone unfamiliar with Chase Ultimate Rewards and how they use them should do some research. It's a great program, especially when redeeming the points for travel through Chase or transferring to partners and redeeming that way. Redeeming for cash is the worst way to use UR points.

My question is this - does this card count towards the Chase 5/24 rule?

To my knowledge business cards do not count towards 5/24 but do require you to be under 5/24 for approval (besides being preapproved)

Wasn't sure if I was over 5/24 or not, but I applied and was approved.

I didn't make it any more elaborate that the questions it asked me. Not sure how you got that from what I said, especially since you know they ask all those questions. There was no open-type box at the end where I tell them my business's life story...
Don't pretend that you have a real estate business. Keep it very basic, and some kind of field that wouldn't have any sort of paperwork/regulatory issues. There is a reason that most people who apply for business cards that don't have a particularly legit business claim put down "sole proprietor" with subcategories that indicate basically selling stuff on eBay or tutoring local kids. Folks with your credit score who follow that pattern tend to get approved without any problem.

The Ink Business Plus is like 80k bonus and a very similar card! Seems a no brainier to go for that!
This Chase Ink Cash card is my favorite card out of ALL the Chase cards. I get 5X on Amazon, and many other retailers! And gas is 2X too and no annual fee. Ink preferred is only good for the initial bonus, it's not good for collecting points after that so you'd probably cancel when the AF hits for the 2nd year.

If you are applying personally instead of a business, are you guys listing your regular salary or just $1. I have heard of people doing both.

I ended up listing my salary and received the message "we need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision by us mail".

Is this usually bad or am I still potentially alright? Any use in calling?

I'd get both(I got both). preferred for the initial bonus and cancel after the 2nd year hits. And this ink cash is a no brainer since they upped the bonus from 30k to 50k, and this card is great for collecting points as you get 5x on a lot of retailers plus no AF!
