You did it wrong. And applying with your SSN had nothing to do with your decline. Don't pretend to have an elaborate business that you can't back up - even if you can stretch it to seem kinda plausible.

What you should have done (and could do in 30 days if you wish to reapply) is to simply apply as a "Sole Proprietor". From that point, pick a category/subcategory that makes sense for you, put minimal levels of income and years in business. I have gotten 3 Chase business cards doing exactly that (2 using my SSN, the 3rd with an EIN), as have a large number of other people - oddly enough, it is easier to get approved following those steps than for legitimate small business owners applying for their businesses.
That one has an annual fee and requires $5k spending from what I can see, but the CB and bonus amount are indeed better.
When I signed up years ago, basic Ebay sellers were viewed as a business. Today YMMV but I still have the card.

One thing to know, the buyer protections granted to customers of non-business VISA cards may not come with the business card. You may want to check carefully before using this card for higher risk purchases.

Applied for the wife using name as business, sole prop etc, still got the 30 day message.

I have always got instant approval on these but it seems like they flagged me or something because I have so many business cards in the past. Are they simply catching on now?

Chase biz cards usually aren't instantly approved so wait it out -- someone will take a look at the app within a few biz days (up to a week if backed up)

Can we upgrade this card to a Chase Business Preferred card?

Idk but I would just sign up for the preferred, if you qualify, for an additional bonus

After you have held the Cash for a year, you should be able to. Though if you want the CIP, you should apply directly for it if possible, given the 80k signup bonus.

Most people here have a "business" b/c they sell things on the side

Business type: Sole proprietor
Business name: use first & last name only ("JOHN SMITH")
Tax ID: use SSN
Years: 1
Revenue: most people get approved with $1000-$2000

For category you can do: Retail Nonstore / Other Misc Store / All Other Misc or Retail Nonstore / Used Merch / Used Merch

Maybe, the preapproval was no longer there when I applied.
You applied online--not via pre-approval. If you are over 5/24 but are pre-approved in branch, you need to apply in branch, via that pre-approval screen with a banker in order to bypass 5/24.

My mistake. I thought that once I am pre-approved in branch, I can also apply for it online. So do I need to wait a certain time before reapply for it in branch if the pre-approval is still there? Thanks.

Not approved. reason. too many card open from the last 24 months.
I do not have a single card with chase from the past 24 month.

They look at new cards from all banks (not just Chase) -- google "chase 5/24 rule"

At least 31 days from any prior Chase application.
