You did it wrong. And applying with your SSN had nothing to do with your decline. Don't pretend to have an elaborate business that you can't back up - even if you can stretch it to seem kinda plausible.

What you should have done (and could do in 30 days if you wish to reapply) is to simply apply as a "Sole Proprietor". From that point, pick a category/subcategory that makes sense for you, put minimal levels of income and years in business. I have gotten 3 Chase business cards doing exactly that (2 using my SSN, the 3rd with an EIN), as have a large number of other people - oddly enough, it is easier to get approved following those steps than for legitimate small business owners applying for their businesses.
That one has an annual fee and requires $5k spending from what I can see, but the CB and bonus amount are indeed better.
When I signed up years ago, basic Ebay sellers were viewed as a business. Today YMMV but I still have the card.

One thing to know, the buyer protections granted to customers of non-business VISA cards may not come with the business card. You may want to check carefully before using this card for higher risk purchases.

One last question (hopefully), can I use the card to purchase the car and show it towards the $3000 purchase condition ?

thank you

Any purchase counts towards the min spend requirement. As long as the dealership allows the use of a credit card and it isn't coded as a cash advance you're good to go.

I would just ask the dealership if the transaction is processed as a cash advance or a purchase. If they don't know or can't tell you, the best thing you could do is request chase lower your cash access limit to $20 before having the dealership run it. If they try to charge more than that, it'll deny.

I assume you're not buying the car outright on the card. Typically dealerships will only allow a couple thousand dollars towards the purchase of a car due to the fees they take.

I was not auto approved and got the wait 30 days response. I called the status hotline after 3 days and was approved over the phone (automated approval).
Hope this helps.
So I applied for a sapphire preferred card on July 10th.I called right away afterwards because I realized I wouldn't get approval due to having A sapphire branded card already and they told me I got denied already. Ok fine with me.

Applied on July 14th for the ink cash and got the wait 30 day response. Called just now to see if I could get auto approved but the machine said that I have more than 1 app in the past 30 days. They received my FIRST application on July 14th which is currently being reviewed. I'll hear back in 7-10 business days. They received my SECOND on July 10th and I'll hear back in 2 weeks. The dates are flipped around... why is that? Also got a letter in the mail a few days ago for the first application saying that I was denied for the sapphire. I thought I was good to go on applying for the second card. Is there a minimum number I'm supposed to be putting down when answering the questions?

Thank you, they said it will be like a purchase I do at Macys or any other store and not cash advance. The max they allow is $3000 for purchase, so that should work perfectly for my situation. I will call chase and lower my cash access just in case,

thank you for the all the help,

Missed the $3000 spending minimum in the first 3 months due to an unexpected business trip abroad. It's been 3months + 10 days now. Called the rep and was told that there might be a grace period. But there's no guarantee whether I'll receive the bonus.

Does anyone else have experience with this? I'll kill myself if I miss the $500 bonusFrownFrownFrown

Chase actually gives you 115 days to complete spending, so you are fine, just finish up the spend ASAP. The phone reps generally aren't aware of this, but it is coded in their system (and if you contact them by secure message from their account, that is the date that you should be given to complete spending).

Thanks for the info. I'm actually at $3000 now, but yea to be safe I'll spend maybe like another $100 on it tonight.

Also what did you mean by secure messaging date?

need to think about whether it is good to apply a "business" card. There is some risk as well.

What risk do you imagine there is?

Just applied and got the 30 day information. Called in and waited for a few minutes, and got approved. They will expedite the shipping in two business days. Thanks for all the info here. Appreciate it.
