Flash this router to an AC68U or AC68P using http://www.bayareatechpros.com/ac1900-to-ac68u/

When using the stock Asus firmware, may indicate new firmware is available Version 3.0.0.4.384.20624
dated 2018/03/26 (3.0.0.4.384_20624-g14d2f02). DO NOT INSTALL 3.0.0.4.384_20624-g14d2f02!!!

3.0.0.4.384_20624-g14d2f02 breaks the AiMesh and it is no longer available. It also changes the CFE file on the router too and reverts the router back to an AC-1900

Latest firmware AC68U that works with AiMesh is Version 3.0.0.4.384.20308 dated 2018/02/01 (RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_384_20308-gead790e.trx)

If you happen to install the Version 3.0.0.4.384.20624 dated 2018/03/26 (3.0.0.4.384_20624-g14d2f02), you have to start all over again.

Beware that Asus has blacklisted the converted TM-AC1900s with the latest AiMesh firmware released today. So this Amazon seller is just dumping remaining inventory for an orphaned product. Merlin f/w will probably follow-suit.

When the current AiMesh (version 3.0.0.4.384.20624) is installed on one of these, it re-flashes the CFE and shuts-off AiMesh.
One word of warning after one updates this router to the Asus firmware following the http://www.bayareatechpros.com/ac1900-to-ac68u/ directions. The router, when using the stock Asus firmware, may indicate new firmware is available (3.0.0.4.384_20624-g14d2f02).

DO NOT INSTALL 3.0.0.4.384_20624-g14d2f02!!!

3.0.0.4.384_20624-g14d2f02 breaks the AiMesh and it is no longer available. It also changes the CFE file on the router too. There is much discussion on this over on SNB in the following two threads.
https://www.snbforums.com/threads...78/page-30
https://www.snbforums.com/threads...646/page-2

If one wants AiMesh to work they currently (unless things change) need to stay with CFE 1.0.2.0 US aimesh and CFE 1.0.2.5 US (RT-AC68P/V2) and stay with firmware 3.0.0.4.384_20308-gead790e.

That said, jumped aboard for another one of these routers after buying one from the previous Hot Deals.
How do they manage to do that? When you flash it, you effectively turn it into an ac68u, it has the same exact internals.

I was reading about problems in the past about getting air mesh to work with the T-Mobile and a non T-Mobile version of this router, does any one know if these problems have been worked out?

i have two of these routers (wasn't able to get aimesh to work, so using one as router and the other as access point). if i'm close enough to the routers, i don't experience any drops in connections, but their range may be relatively short compared to other routers.

i'll probably try to get aimesh working again soon, and maybe buy a third one so i can have a reliable connection on the second floor (the access point is located on the first floor, and the connection gets dropped every now and then).

while i don't own google wifi, based on what i've read about them, they will be much more user friendly (especially out of the box), and probably have better performance. asus still needs to fine-tune aimesh.

How does this compare to this Tenda AC1900, looks to be exactly the same internals just a different cleaner looking box.

Aimesh cfe was released a little over a month ago. It should work, albeit a little flaky

I got this from Tanga a while back and they were brand new for $60. Took forever to get It in tho. It was well worth it.

Used online instruction to flash it to Merlin build and it has been running like a champ. You can find several instruction online but pay attention to your router version and do your research. Here is an example instructions.
