OK. So we know what everyone looks like and what everyone does for a living. This thread will be about your pets.

I have two dogs, Bailey and Kayla. Here is a recent pic of them. Don't make fun of Bailey's shirt, he had an allergic reaction to some shampoo and needs to wear it until he stops itching at it.

Alright...as the new school year is coming up, i need to start thinking about what all i need to get for my 44 gallon tank. I know i need all the gravel, and plants and what not, the thing i am asking is, what equipment i need? I figure i need a filter, and probably some other things...right?

Hey Zuma... I gave davemon my link [fishpalace.org] already, and he found it pretty useful. You can start in the Basics section, or you can start from one of my articles... should answer most of your questions (the tank article links to filter and other accessory options).

A lot of it depends on what kinds of fish you're keeping, which are also covered from the main site. For a 44 gallon, your best bet would be some type of cannister filter.

My guess would be those pics are from 4 different setups? Possibly 5. I understand the addiction - I used to have a saltwater tank.

Yes, good guess, it's 4 diff setups. If anyone knows something about keeping an octopus... you can't keep them with very much else; they'll eat just about anything you put in the tank, so he had his own tank. The top ones are a FW planted setup, the 2nd from the reef tank I used to have before a power outage claimed it ( Frown ) and then there's a separate seahorse tank.

Don't get me started... LOL. (Just one more pic... mantis shrimp in the refugium):

When I read that you lost your reef tank to a power outage I actually had a huge OMG moment. I know how much money and care can go into something like that and it was probably a huge loss. Anyway, your mantis shrimp rocks - has he tried to break the glass yet?

I know, it REALLY sucked. I had about $3 K invested in that tank alone... gone by the 3rd day of no power (our power was gone for 6 total)... in retrospect, I could have gotten a generator (I had a battery powered air pump, dunno why I was thinking that would hold it up temporarily)... but hindsight is 20/20. Frown Still get a little choked up thinking about it...

On the mantis shrimp... he was in that system (in the refugium), so he was gone, too. Frown But when I did have him, the refugium was thick plexiglass, so there were no disasters of that kind. Though he did try... every once in a while I'd hear his taps.

clownfishboy, I saw Juggernaut's tank pics, but not yours... you have anything online?

I have just started my aquarium about a month ago and got 2 Asian needlenose gars. They are some mean lil sons o'bitches! I bought 2 glass catfish to keep in there with them thinking the cats were big enough to be ok...after the first i realized i was dead wrong when I came home and they had vanished, I thought I was just having a hard time seeing them and then i saw a little fin at the bottom...so sad! So now i just keep my 2 gars and they eat like no other! I have to feed them about a fish a day to keep them happy althought they can eat as many as 3 a day. They are pretty neat to see eat, when you drop a fish in there they just go flying after them and they then BAM! just clamp down on the poor fish and swallow them whole. Its weird cause sometimes you can see the fish trying to move inside of the gar. Its fun stuff!
