No, GOG games are DRM free so you basically download the installation files for the game. GOG Galaxy is just an optional game client. It's not necessary to install and play the game.

Update:
GOG games cannot be activated on steam.

Keep an eye on http://www.gog.com/connect because occasionally your steam games will earn you the DRM free versions.

No way to link this to steam? Have to use the GOG Galaxy thing to install and run the game from Gog.com? Sorry, first time using it.

Thanks, getting both games worked for me. Relatively painless to get The Witcher.

I never could get into the first Witcher due to clunky controls+the camera issues at least for me.I still have it though just to have it in the collection.I do need to give Constructor a whirl.

Not linked but you can add non-steam games to your steam library. I connect my laptop to the TV running steam big screen mode and play all my games from the same interface, including Witcher 3 I purchased from gog.com a while ago. The game .exe is burried deep but it's there to run from steam.

Yeah I tried it out as well and experienced the same thing. Controls are just too funky. Maybe if I were really bored this summer I'd give it another shot. But probably not.
It's a shame I bet the story in the first one is pretty good.

The controls in the original were meant to be that way, the emphasis was on timing/thinking, not on button mashing action. They dumbed it down in the successive ones since most people were used to the button mashing in their games by that point. Kind of like what the Gothic series was doing.

The story is worth it for the witcher. I played it when it first came out so I didnt notice the terrible controls as much as I do now.
