Recommended. Rather than paste, see my post in the blower thread.

How does this compare to the top seller (over 4,000 reviews on HD) https://www.homedepot.com/p/ECHO-...100675439) ?

The ECHO is 2 lbs heavier...and consumer warranty is 5 yrs instead of 7....not sure why anyone would have both, but perhaps someone with experience can comment/compare the two? Don't want to save $50 but be disappointed with the performance.

Never bought Echo. But 2# is a lot when you're hauling it around, and 2 years is 2 years. This is the Tanaka commercial version, same x/ orange case. TCG23ECPSL

Depends on use I suppose, but I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Thanks for the feedback. Couldn't find solid info with regards to the "feeding" mechanism of the Hitachi. On one site I saw it says that the line is automatically fed (i.e. without bumping), somewhere else I see tap & go. I also couldn't find any info on whether there's a quick-feed feature that allows for quick re-spooling of line - from the reviews it seems like you need to remove the spool from the head and re-wind manually. The echo seems to have some feature where you just thread in 20 ft of string into the head (without removing) and press a button to wind it all up. I live on 1.5 acres in FL and the vegetation never sleeps...I've been battling it out with a Ryobi cordless but I use up 3 of the large capacity batteries in no time as the weeds point and laugh at me.

Again, this is not my specific model, but mine is a bump feed. Manual loading.

I had the older model 21.5cc still works after 6yrs and gave it away. End up buying a Husqvarna 128LD to see what's up. But sort of regret as the 128LD is 28cc used more gas and it seems overrated as it was only slightly 5% stronger than my old 21.5cc Hitachi. The Husqvarna is a tad heavier so I must have to order a shoulder strap and hook for it. I love the 7yrs warranty and it usually starts with 1 pull and a few preps.

I was about to pull the trigger on this but I can't have it delivered to Hawaii... :/

Or California for that matter.

I'll just keep looking. Thanks OP!

I think battery operated like Greenworkks or Echo is still the best way to go.

Great idea until you consider the fact that the batteries cost about as much as the whole weedwacker itself.

Thanks. Always appreciate some reaffirmations when I 'impulse' buy something! (...though in this case I am without a weedwacker and it's spring and I needed one anyway)

Agreed, I bought a Worx electric trimmer last year, the battery was fairly large (5.0ah or more I think) and it still inevitably died in the middle of trimming and edging my yard.

If this trimmer could last 6-7 years, you'll easily replace the batteries at least once during that timeframe, which will end up costing you much more than this trimmer altogether, not to mention gas is generally almost always more powerful than electric.

If there was a battery powered trimmer out there with a big enough battery that didn't cost an arm and a leg, had the same power output as gas, AND offered a 7 year warranty on the battery (at a minimum), I'd be all over that.
