I tried setting up mine to work in conjunction with my Actiontec G1100 (router on the first floor, extender on the second). For some reason, with the Extender active, we lose internet connectivity intermittently from time to time. Is the dual band causing issues? Should we use either 2.4ghz or 5ghz, but not both (at least without the same password)?
Probably not handing off the signal. I would suggest using different SSID since these devices are not as efficient for handing off signals like say other routers.

"Buyer beware!! This is a Time Warner Cable Rejected Device (No wonder the price is low). Actiontec doesn't even make this model anymore." -- no thanks.

Sounds more like interference on the coax to me. Does MoCA even run on different frequencies than DOCSIS?

Any one use this with TiVo? I've got a roamio and some minis running moca, wondering if this would play nice with this setup...
I used this with TiVo. Had some moca 2.0 devices on the network already and this slowed everything down from 500 to 100. But yes, it works fine with TiVo if you don't have any other moca stuff.

You can get moca filters if you think thats it.

Not sure about the freq.

So if I already have xfinity can I just connect this to a unused coax in another room and it will work?

To use just ONE of these you need one OTHER MOCA device. It could be the ethernet bridge (ECB2500), it could be the router (MI424WR), it could be the XFinity Gateway (can't remember the model), or it could be a second one of these wifi extenders. You require two devices.

If you choose to go with the ethernet bridge (ECB2500) or a second one of these WCB3000N devices, you do the following. Plug one device via ethernet into your router, and then connect the coax line to the wall. With the second device, all you need to do is plug it in via coax into the wall. That's it. The DHCP from the router will be picked up and the wifi will properly distribute the IP table.

If you choose to go the router route (MI424WR, G1100, or one of the cable modem gateways from XFinity or Arris) all you need to do is setup your router as you normally would (be it as the primary router connected to your cable modem, or as a coax bridge), then connect the coax to the wall. Using the second device, just connect the coax to the wall. And you are done. The second device will pick up the IP table no problem.

In both cases, after you plug it in you can setup the Wifi settings on the WCB3000N as you like...SSID, wifi password, etc. I know there is someway to have this automatically extend your MoCA router wifi network, but i never cared to figure it out as I like to have separate networks.

Thanks for the explanation, I'm still confused though. So if you plug the first one into your router Ethernet and into the cable line, then how do you plug the modem into the cable line? Do you use a cable line splitter, one goes to the modem and the other goes to this wifi extender? Should you plug this wifi extender via Ethernet into the modem or router?

For the second device, is the only option to plug into cable line? I want to put it in the garage to extend wifi range, but there's no cable line there. Are there other options to extend wifi without a cable line requirement?

Make sure to read up on the original deal thread before buying: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/374511

I bought eight of these (at $13.99) and returned five of them. Here's a quick breakdown:

Yes, these work if you have fios and cable. It will also work if you don't have internet at all. Any room that has coax/TV can get hardwired level connections with these.

You'll need one box per head, including at the router... If your router doesn't have MoCA built in.

These are MoCA 1.1...it caps at around 130-140 mbps... Or just slightly over fast ethernet speeds. This is between endpoints with a six foot coax cable.

Good parts:

Plug and play wifi extenders if you have WPS.

Very easy to install.

Not much degradation even if you have a ton of splitters and lines.

Will crush any wireless solution in latency.

Great for use as backhaul between APs

The main issues:

These are likely rebranded TWC boxes. Many things are disabled by default... And the firmware will NEVER be upgraded.

Cannot turn off wifi easily without going into the individual elements of the GUI and turning them off. You need to repeat this everytime power goes out.

No MoCA security... If you're in an apt complex... This means you neighbors may see your computers. Not an issue if you're in a detached home with fios.

These boxes come with:
One splitter
One rg59 cable
One ethernet wire
The box itself, of course.

I kept two (for parents) and one as a spare if a friend should need it... But I found more flexibility and tweakability in just buying old fios routers and turning them into bridges. Also, with the advent of cheap gigabit internet... I need. Bonded MoCA 2.0 minimum... Worth the extra $ to get those boxes for me.

I purchased the OP and the following:

2 PACK - DIRECTV Broadband DECA Ethernet to Coax Adapter - Third Generation (with 2 AC Power Supplies)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AYMG...-AbM9VB5Y5

I found that it would work fine with my Comcast modem, but not work with my Fios Modem because it needs to be connected in parallel! I was unable to run from either modem an ethernet port converted to a coax to connect into the Actiontec extender.

What I have linked above is a direct converter. I run my ethernet out from my router convert to coax, then run it upstairs, then convert back to ethernet, and into my PC. Works like a charm.

Thanks, got it to extend my Fios
That would be my purpose as well. Will this downgrade the speed of the WiFi signal for all other devices? How does this compare to the $99 Fios Extender that Verizon sells?

What is MOCA?

I saw answers on Amazon saying that you can't match two of these together, is that incorrect?

You should be ok with OTA on the same line as moca. As far as TiVo goes, i know that they make specifically branded tivo moca units. I haven't figured out if they can function interchangeably.

edit: according to tivo website they should work together with actiontec. as such you should be able to use these fine for TiVo.
Exactly right. Tivo is how I found out about moca networking. My premiere 4+ is connected and everything works beautifully.

Got two of these last time. Was able to compile the newer firmware on Github and update it without any issues. Fixed the problem where it doesn't allow the vertical bar character in the WPA2 passphrase and allows turning off the WiFi radio.

https://github.com/jameshilliard/WECB-CC-GPL

Edit: also this has MoCA privacy, I thought the stock firmware did as well but IDK.
