My local DT store price matched Amazon's price on the same tires (huge savings), and then ordered the tires for me prior to the rebate dates and set them aside with my name on them. I picked them up during the rebate dates and had them installed. I didn't buy the "protection plan". A couple of months later, I hit a piece of metal in the roadway which sliced my sidewall. I called the DT store and talked with the manager who ordered in a new tire and they replaced the damaged one for free.
Online rebate submission was a breeze, and the payment was received very quickly. Probably 3 - 4 weeks IIRC. Definitely not the usual 10 -12 weeks like most rebates.
My local Costco seems to treat customers like cattle, in-and-out, so I'm not so sure I would have received the same excellent treatment as I did with DT.
DT has given me the impression that they appreciate my business and want me to come back, which I definitely will if they remain competitive.
Just my .02 cents and YMMV at your location.
