They need to make these guys cost less than $100 otherwise it is not worth it since the price of the box is equivalent to a decent mobo + cpu for gaming. Just build a secondary mini ITX desktop for gaming instead with just a little bigger size

Most users add it to thier laptop not a desktop

If you can build a working desktop without storage or ram then you've got yourself a front page deal. Otherwise DDR4 and an NVMe drive just doubled the price of your hypothetical PC. And to be clear, at $500 even the most basic budget build is already double the price of this device.

The price isn't out of line with various USB-C charging docks for the Mac. At this price its an interesting alternative.
