I picked this up from the MP deal two weeks ago. The main query I've answered with regard to it is running temperature. Peers and benchmarking sites have had it up to the 57-59C range while the SM2262 controller is rated [siliconmotion.com] for a maximum/throttling temperature of 70C. I put a copper BGA ramsink on mine with some thermal tape - the same procedure I use on Raspberry Pi 3s - with no other cooling on the cache or flash; my maximum temperature through 1TBW has been 44C. Heatsinks like the EK-M.2 are made for single-sided drives, and this one is double-sided (and is thus thicker in general - caution for some mobile devices). Plenty of reviews out there for performance although it's very similar to the Intel 760p and Adata XPG SX8200.

My quick personal review - it's a very good drive especially for the price. I think you'll see plenty of SM2262 drives in the second half of this year and prices will definitely come down. Nevertheless if you're buying now, and now is not a bad time to buy compared to the last year and a half, this is a pretty solid choice. My only caveat is that it's not exceptionally faster than any other SSD for most consumer workloads so make sure this is something you need.

It should fit, but most likely Dell would tell you not to use a double-sided M.2 drive like this one.

Yes; you can read this Reddit thread [reddit.com] for some information about your specific question. (essentially, such a drive can fit even with a thin thermal interface but will likely not be recommended by Dell). Thermal is definitely a concern with laptops and NVME drives but I'm not sure specifically what your needs are with that machine, but I think you could make do with a standard M.2 drive.

I have this drive and it is a steal at this price. It launched at $369, it is just as fast as the 970 evo and western digital black. The warranty is 3 years compared to the aforementioned drives but that's it. I have 2 of these running in an x470 setup and love it. I mainly use it for game storage though. It is a very fast drive and my temps so far, have stayed below 45c, I'm very pleased with this drive overall.

I have one of these too - got on a prior deal from the same seller for $319 or so. I don't see a difference between this and a garden variety 1tb SATA ssd, but I did want to try it. It's in an i7 z370 Asus board.
