Excellent specs. This has everything: an SSD, a 1060, thunderbolt 3, a 6 core cpu, and 16gb of ram. For those who are wondering, the g3/5/7 series is the successor to the Inspiron gaming line (https://www.notebookcheck.net/Del...792.0.html)

This truly seems like a great deal for latest i7, etc. I can't see a lot of customer review online as I think these are new. Anyone have thoughts here on how slick this is? Looks like there are plenty of 'easy' upgrade options as well (up the SSD, swap out the HDD, increase RAM) down the road. I may jump on this..... or are new versions of computers the same as cars... never get the first model year...

Definitely some extremely solid specs for the money. 8750H isn't too far off some of the recent high performance Desktop CPUs. Benchmarks put it neck and neck with the 8600K for multi-threaded performance, though the 8600K has about a 20% edge for single-core.

The main sacrifice with these Dell G-series laptops is the build quality. Don't expect a sleek laptop with 'Premium' build quality like Dell's Latitude/Precision/XPS lines, or Macbook, toshiba X1, etc..

Thanks - would build quality be more related to the cheaper plastics, etc on the outside or are you talking internals? This will be for my son heading to college and will be not his daily mobile laptop (he'll get light/basic one for taking notes, web surfing, writing papers, etc) and use this one as his gamer and engineering program laptop so it won't be moving around much (i.e. daily). So wonder if build quality is less of an issue.

His older Dell (Vostro) runs well still and never had issues so we are not necessarily new to Dell overall.

This may be a dumb question...sorry. I see it says the following on the dell website: "Standard full-size, spill-resistant keyboard with numeric keypad. Optional backlit full-size, spill-resistant keyboard with numeric keypad (red only in some regions)". It then says option backlit (blue) further down in the feature description as well.

What does "Optional backlit..." mean? I don't see that as an option to add to the order (i.e. pay more for that option?) so wonder if it means the backlighting can just be enabled/disabled so it isn't always backlit.... I assume it comes with the backlit keyboard and you can disable it (i.e. optional) but just wanted to confirm.

You can currently get 20% CB from some other site... so that makes it even slicker than the rebate..

The G7 has a more reenforced chassis - and as I understand it, improved build quality.

That said - you won't likely see any performance differences
