I bought the 365 things to do with lego bricks for my son recently.
You need A LOT of specialty bricks for the builds. We have a ton of sets and still don't have the specialty bricks needed.
It's kind of frustrating.

I second bricklink, and I also discovered rebrickable's site. You can tell the site what sets you have and it will tell you what what you can all build and what percentage you own. You can also program it to ignore some specialty prints and colors. Pretty amazing site
