All of above NVRs and IP Cameras are made by Hikvison. It looks like Swann is clearing them out. The NVR should support most Hikvision IP Cameras up to 8MP (4K). The 4K turret camera is equivalent to DS-2CD2385FWD-I. You can use Hikvision's iVMS-4500 app for remote viewing which has more controls than the Swann app.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Hikvision Value Series models that may work with the Swann NVR:
https://us.hikvision.com/en/produ...lue-series
The 2CD2xx5FWD are the newer models with H265, EXIR IR and built-in micro-sd slot. Highly recommended.

Note:
From my reading of the specs and product pages on swann and swann's ebay store the cameras and NVR appear to use Swannlink P2P protocal. The products are certainly Hikvision OEMs, so there probably is a way to reflash these to a Hikvision OEM firmware which will give you a more compatible and open product.
update: Sam88 - OP - reports that the Swannlink P2P only applies to setting up remote access to the cameras / NVR, and that you should not need to update the firmware as the cameras / NVR should work with Hikvision OEM products.

Sam88 was able to add the Swann camera to his Hikvision NVR! More info

If you are looking for an open IP PoE ONVIF "4K" / 8MP camera, I suggest considering the following one from Amcrest ( Dahua OEM ).

Info on updating the firmware - thanks to Funkadelic415 !
Quote from funkadelic415 :
It's pretty straightforward. i do it via the Hikvision iVMS-4200 desktop software as I run my NVR headless (not connected to a monitor), but you can do it via the TV UI as well or via the NVR's web UI.

For an NVR, it took some time for me to figure out which was the hik equivalent firmware to use via http://www.hikvisioneurope.com/po...k-ends/NVR. This was for the Swann NVR8-7200 that was being sold at Costco some years back which i finally upgraded to the appropriate hik firmware [hikvisioneurope.com] after several unsuccessful attempts. The good thing is that the NVR & cameras won't let you update with hik firmware that wasn't compatible for it.

UPDATE: Please see gja's post following, the cameras do not appear to be ONVIF and appear to be locked down somehow by Swann - thus expect to take some time to figure out how to unlock or flash these cameras. Same issue applies to the NVR.

UPDATE 2: 6/2/2018 Sam88 OP has gotten his cameras in and reports they are working well with his NVR and he has had no need to update the firmware!

NVR is on clearance.

wow.. crazy savings...

Swann 16 Channel Network Video Recorder: 4K Ultra HD NVR-8000 with 4TB HDD
SONVR-16800H
MSRP: $2,999.99
$99.99
Save: $2900.00

wonder what's going on with this, looks like a great deal w/a 4tb hdd

OK, the $2,999.99 price must be a kit price which included the cameras. Still w/a 4TB HDD for $100... nice find...

Swann also has the 4K bullet, under clearance section:
https://www.swann.com/us/swnhd-880cam

Swann is also selling the 8 channel NVR version on ebay.... for $99.99
https://www.ebay.com/i/282966407078?chn=ps

and the 16 channel refurbished NVR no longer going to the same product
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Swann-16...2555618796

Amazon page on a kit w/this NVR - OOS, has some reviews
https://www.amazon.com/Swann-SWNV...B072BQYFX9

Walmart listing on a kit w/this NVR - also OOS, no reviews
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Swann-.../983149741

Newegg list on a kit w/this NVR - also OOS, no reviews

Example of a kit on the Swann site with 8x 4K cameras
https://www.swann.com/us/swnvk-168008

Note:
Uncertain why Swann would be selling the NVR for such a great price, was unable to find much on the NVR.
Still they have it listed in a kit which is not being sold as clearance.

AS this is a Swann ( assuming Hikvision OEM ) product I do not know as much about them as the Dahua OEM products, thus I would recommend if you plan to pick up this NVR to also pick up cameras to go with it from Swann to minimize any headaches in the future locating cameras which work. At least pick up enough cameras to get you started. ( in theory Hikvision OEM cameras should work w/this kit... )

Looks like the following Hikvision OEM NVR version:
https://www.hikvision.com/en/Prod...-7600NI-I2

( Swann compatibility list here )
https://www.swann.com/media/wysiw...bility.pdf

So, if you get the NVR ( $100 ) + X of the 4K cameras ( $120 or $130 )
nvr + 4 cameras: $580 | $620
nvr + 6 cameras: $820 | $880
nvr + 8 cameras: $1060 | $1140

How's the quality of the cat5 cables included with the cameras? Reliable enough, or is one better off to invest in better cabling right away? The one component of the system I don't want to ever have to replace is the wiring.

I have set up 2 different SWANN camera systems and the cables are good enough to run and connect. If you are going to punch the cable and cut it in the future, I'd recommend running your own. If you just plug in what they give you and cable tie the excess, then it's fine. To my customers though, I always run new cable.

If you buy your own cabling, I'd recommend Monoprice Cat5e Copper Cable. Always buy Copper and not CCA.

Is the kit with 8x 4K for $1299 a good deal? What are your thoughts on the quality of the cameras?
