Walmart has a $400 discount on Pixel 2 and 2 XL. Picked up a Pixel 2 64GB for $251 ($10.45 per month for 24 months ($10.65 first month)), $30 activation fee, paid only tax on the phone price upfront. Store says they have plenty in stock.
EDIT: Yes, instant discount which results in the lower total price/monthly payments (not bill credits). Upfront tax charged on discounted price.
New or existing Verizon line & DPP required; if you do not want service with Verizon, you should be able to pay off early without penalty. Forum members are reporting a 14 day lockout on early device payoff in the Verizon website, but report success paying it off on the Verizon app, at a Verizon store with cash or by phone with Verizon customer service. Then they have cancelled the line via phone or chat, all within the 72 hour period during which line charges are refundable. You may have to make sure with customer service that the cancellation takes effect immediately and the activation fee is waived.
YMMV finding inventory. There were several in stock at the South Euclid and Mayfield Heights stores in OH. The store displays there showed the discount. Try to work with the third-party wireless expert in the electronics area. If there is no sign and WM employees do not know about discount, you may not see the discount until they print out the DPP form. B&M only, website and brickseek are not reliable on inventory.

See post #35 for example of stacking with trade-in offer if still available.
See post #1075 for example of a smoothly executed deal.
See post #1080 if you are looking to do this a second time.
POSTSCRIPT: A shout out to SkillfulOstrich6994 who posted this deal (with success stacking with a trade-in!) in another thread before I came along with this thread.
UPDATE:. For those not staying with Verizon, folks are reporting no luck paying the phone off by calling customer service or in the app. Paying by cash at a corporate store may be the only option.

If you purchase this for an existing line, do you pay both activation and an upgrade fee?

I should add that the Walmart site showed that the phone wasn't in stock at the store since I first checked a couple days ago and brickseek only showed it to be in limited quantity. I got there around 7PM today and 2 people in front of me bought the phone in black, so the inventory system is not very reliable. I tried to call first but I could never get through to someone at the mobile phone counter. The receptionist kept trying to transfer me and after 5 tries and 10 minutes of cumulative ringing, I gave up, rolled the dice and went.
By the way, it is not bill credits. The paperwork showed that the contract is for $251 over 24 months with a payment schedule. I only had to pay NJ tax upfront of about $16 and change.

Their clientele is more like Target, not just regular Walmart. lol.
