About half a year ago Harbor Freight recalled their trailer tires and stopped selling all their trailers.
There are practically no trailers that come anywhere close to even the full price of the Harbor Freight trailers anywhere I looked.
I've even seen old Harbor Freight trailers on Craigslist selling for the full retail price during this period.
I ended up getting a different smaller trailer on Craigslist that I had to completely rebuild for about the price of these a few months ago.
Coupons for these trailers may be coming eventually.
Northern Tool also had a folding trailer that was taken off the shelf that has returned. They may have had more that I just didn't notice.
1090 lbs. Capacity 40-1/2 in x 48 in Utility Trailer [harborfreight.com] - $290
1195 lbs. Capacity 48 in. x 96 in. Heavy Duty Folding Trailer [harborfreight.com] - $350
1720 lbs. Capacity 48 in. x 96 in. Super Duty Folding Trailer [harborfreight.com] - $450
Ironton 4ft. x 8ft. Folding Utility Trailer Kit — 1170-Lb. Load Capacity [northerntool.com] - $450
(Slickdeals only let me select the images of the Northern Tool trailer for the post)

I'd rather have upgraded bearings and 13" wheels with better width for more 'bump' absorption. At least this can prolong the life of the trailer with heavier loads over longer distances.
I go up to 65mph with the smallest HF trailer with 12" tires.
It's funny you mention that, as I couldn't find my bookmark and DID google search it, and could not find the 100+ page thread that has THOUSANDS of photos of people's rendition of kayak trailers. So yes, you could Google "Kayak trailer" and click on random links that have a few posts each, maybe a picture of two or you could locate the mega thread I am talking about and have 100+ pages of exactly what you are looking for.
I thought it was on the texaskayakfishing forums but I couldn't find it. I will find it eventually and I will post it here, for the user(s) that might care. I still do because I still need a kayak trailer and I wanted to build it from HF.

The best design I found after scouring all sources is using PVC as bunks and then extend the tongue by finding a local metal supply shop that sells steel tubing. You can bolt it and/or have it welded on. The PVC bunks support the kayak lengthwise which prevents hull deformation when storing it on there for longer periods. I cheaped out and just used wood instead of unistrut/superstrut. My build was a cross between this one [texaskayakfisherman.com] & this one [hobie.com]. There's several other good threads on hobie forums, too lazy to find them.
Also, Aliexpress has super cheap slick looking LED yellow side lights that made my trailer look way more expensive than it is. They were less than a dollar each, lol.

Is it possible to pull the smaller 1090lb trailer cross country without issues?
I built walls for mine out of 1/2 plywood, drilled holes in the upper corners and used twine to connect the walls. 2x4s are what I use to drive down into the included metal brackets, which are screwed to the walls.
We use ours to haul the kids around for Halloween!

As far as driving cross country, it would be perfect for that, but you will want to repack the bearings before doing that. Since they mass produce these, I wouldn't trust the grease that they use in these hubs to go far distances, especially if you are carrying any decent weight on it.

Would the bearings need to be repacked during the trip?
