About half a year ago Harbor Freight recalled their trailer tires and stopped selling all their trailers.
There are practically no trailers that come anywhere close to even the full price of the Harbor Freight trailers anywhere I looked.
I've even seen old Harbor Freight trailers on Craigslist selling for the full retail price during this period.

I ended up getting a different smaller trailer on Craigslist that I had to completely rebuild for about the price of these a few months ago.

Coupons for these trailers may be coming eventually.

Northern Tool also had a folding trailer that was taken off the shelf that has returned. They may have had more that I just didn't notice.

1090 lbs. Capacity 40-1/2 in x 48 in Utility Trailer [harborfreight.com] - $290

1195 lbs. Capacity 48 in. x 96 in. Heavy Duty Folding Trailer [harborfreight.com] - $350

1720 lbs. Capacity 48 in. x 96 in. Super Duty Folding Trailer [harborfreight.com] - $450

Ironton 4ft. x 8ft. Folding Utility Trailer Kit — 1170-Lb. Load Capacity [northerntool.com] - $450

(Slickdeals only let me select the images of the Northern Tool trailer for the post)

Is it me or does the Tractor Supply 5x8 trailer make more sense? 1600lb capacity, but it has sides, a "floor," and a ramp. $250 more. I guess it depends on what you need it for? The TS trailers are rated for 60mph, or at least the manual says 60 is the top speed.

pack the bearings good and you'll be fine. Also like any cheap Chinese import tires, check for obvious defects in the tires as they do have bad batches (related to their recall I believe). A lot of people assume they come pre-packed, THEY ARE NOT! The come packed only with some nasty creamy shipping grease to prevent rust. You have to open them up, clean them up good and pack with appropriate lube and install a bearing buddy as desired. After that you can run them on the freeway all day and the hubs stay cool to the touch. This info is not obvious from the instructions (at least old ones) and I suspect many people either didn't pack them right or assembled and used as-is.
There are other variables with smaller tires, bearings to match, and a less-than-flexible bed with no springs - especially at the 4' wide rating, and heavier loads over longer distances.

I'd rather have upgraded bearings and 13" wheels with better width for more 'bump' absorption. At least this can prolong the life of the trailer with heavier loads over longer distances.

There are a gazillion threads across many forums regarding this. Just google "kayak trailer" without quotes.

I go up to 65mph with the smallest HF trailer with 12" tires.

It's funny you mention that, as I couldn't find my bookmark and DID google search it, and could not find the 100+ page thread that has THOUSANDS of photos of people's rendition of kayak trailers. So yes, you could Google "Kayak trailer" and click on random links that have a few posts each, maybe a picture of two or you could locate the mega thread I am talking about and have 100+ pages of exactly what you are looking for.

I thought it was on the texaskayakfishing forums but I couldn't find it. I will find it eventually and I will post it here, for the user(s) that might care. I still do because I still need a kayak trailer and I wanted to build it from HF.

There's no such thing. The best single thread was on texaskayakfishing forums (probably this one here [texaskayakfisherman.com]), but it didn't come close to including all of the best designs. For that, you have to use google.

The best design I found after scouring all sources is using PVC as bunks and then extend the tongue by finding a local metal supply shop that sells steel tubing. You can bolt it and/or have it welded on. The PVC bunks support the kayak lengthwise which prevents hull deformation when storing it on there for longer periods. I cheaped out and just used wood instead of unistrut/superstrut. My build was a cross between this one [texaskayakfisherman.com] & this one [hobie.com]. There's several other good threads on hobie forums, too lazy to find them.

Also, Aliexpress has super cheap slick looking LED yellow side lights that made my trailer look way more expensive than it is. They were less than a dollar each, lol.

Glad these are back... I had my 1st one (4x8 990# version) for 10 years and sold it about 5 years ago for more than I paid. My current one (1720# 4x8) is about 5 years old and I still need to go get new tires for the recall.

Has anyone ordered one from HF yet? I called around and none of my local stores were even aware of them being available online. I called the 1800 number to ask about ship to store and they said the 4x8 1100 lb one was backordered already. Figured it might be the SD effect, but the website doesn't even say it is backordered. With about a dozen stores in my area I want to wait to avoid the $95 shipping fee, let alone wait for the $259 super coupon since the new 20% off ones exclude trailers.

Other than tire size difference what else differs between the 1195lbs and 1720lbs?

Is it possible to pull the smaller 1090lb trailer cross country without issues?

These are great trailers! Just know, they take a long time to put together. To fold it up you have to remove two nuts w/ bolts from underneath, kinda cumbersome.

I built walls for mine out of 1/2 plywood, drilled holes in the upper corners and used twine to connect the walls. 2x4s are what I use to drive down into the included metal brackets, which are screwed to the walls.

We use ours to haul the kids around for Halloween!

the higher capacity one doesn't fold (at least that used to be the case I believe, looks like its listed as folding now) but I imagine has larger springs too.

Ball size is bigger (2") on the 1720lb. 1195lbs is 1 7/8" ball.

As far as driving cross country, it would be perfect for that, but you will want to repack the bearings before doing that. Since they mass produce these, I wouldn't trust the grease that they use in these hubs to go far distances, especially if you are carrying any decent weight on it.

They've obviously had tire issues. A month ago I found a couple of tires in the local store marked "NOT FOR SALE, WARRANTY ONLY". They had none for sale. Bought the boat trailer tires I needed from Wally World.

Thanks. You think the smaller utility trailer would be fine as well cross country with a repack?
Would the bearings need to be repacked during the trip?
