Another thing, VEGA 10 performs slower than MX150 by 20% to 30%. The GPU is itself powerful but due to the limited memory bandwidth, it cannot compete with MX150 with its own GDDR5 memory.
Based on the reviews suggesting that the 2700u was comparable to the i7 8550u plus mx150 gpu, I had really high hopes for the Dell version of this 2 in 1. But it didn't live up to those hopes in the 2 weeks I owned the Dell.
I'd wanted a small convertible for videos and general productivity while traveling. I also wanted to do some low power gaming (War Thunder) peaking at ps2 emulation.
I first tried a refurb HP envy 13t with 8550u, mx150 and 4k screen. It worked perfectly with everything I threw at it. PS2 emulation was great at 2x the original resolution. I returned this laptop due to the lack of warranty and support related to minor video bugs. Also, this wasn't convertible.
Next I bought an open box Dell 2700u 2 in 1. To make a long story short, by comparison it was a laggy mess. War Thunder inexplicably crashed to a black screen frequently. PS2 emulation was significantly slower, as much as 30%. Reading online reviews about the poor AMD video drivers for Vega 10, I manually installed recommended alternates. Nothing worked.
Since benchmarks show these 2 machines being comparable, I'm not sure if throttling or video drivers are the culprit. Probably both. In short, real life experience was disappointing for me.
I ended up returning this 2 in 1 and settled for something bigger than I thought I wanted. An Acer Nitro 5 Spin. So far I'm really happy with my choice.
