It's kind of an answer-less question. It's whichever one runs the ac less. They don't magically make your ac more efficient, so it's not like one can save energy and keep the same temperature as the other. It's up to the user to maximize efficiency with these, as much as they'd like you to think otherwise. Either of these will certainly help though with remote access and ease of scheduling. The "learning" feature is less than ideal and the auto home/away feature isn't much better.
This is a bit of a rabbit hole. You can't just invest in a smart thermostat alone. Depening on the size of the house, a combination of smart fans, smart vents and smart thermos with per room temp sensors will ensure that room level heating and cooling needs are met. This will ensure optimized savings.
If you look at the Eligibility Requirements link on the shopping cart page, it explicitly states "Smart thermostat devices must be installed in the same house as identified by the PSE&G residential account used to validate customer eligibility. Resale of rebated products is expressly forbidden".
But what does this really mean? How would PSEG know it's not being used or was sold to someone else?
I wouldn't mind getting 1 and selling another.
But would PSEG really be able to track this?
Did you get an updated on this? I also have the same question.
does this need to get to shipped to the nj address on the account that we will be using to order? Anyone know? Thanks!
Answering my own question - yes it needs to be shipped to the service address per online chat. Didn't take any chances got it shipped to my sister's address in nj (the account that qualifies).
Got charged tax on the pre-rebate amount though! Got 2 ecobee 3 lite's for $38 but taxes were $22! Still an insane deal. Thanks op!
ok - so you shipped to your sis and installed elsewhere??? I have 3 zones in my house. I got 2 but want to order another and have it sent to my friends house. The terms say they can monitor where it is installed and will charge you the rebate amt if you dont follow the guidelines. Have you had any such problems?

i also have the same question. I ordered 2 but need a 3rd, as i have 3 zones in my house. Any network guys here to let us know if it is possible for pseg to know where it is installed?
Any downsides about the terms & conditions? I see that you can't flip these; they must be installed in the residence that applied for the rebate. Any other gotchas?
