For gaming? No. You'd still pay more for the motherboard unnecessarily. Whatever Intel's top i5 is would probably perform better.

For workstation and highly threaded stuff this is, seriously, one of the best proc deals I've ever seen.
The 1950x is still a workhorse for people who needs it gen 2 or not. I see no point to upgrade at this time and I wish I had paid this price.
Who the hell buy a 16 cores 32 threads CPU to game? Most people use this for a VM lab or rendering. To be able to have a full lab with 10-20 VM for under 2k is insane.

2nd gen is coming out. Is Amazon jumping the gun on 1st Gen price drops?

1920x looks like a price mistake... 8-core SKU is the same price.

"Intel has a number of processors which outperform the 1920X, such as the i5-7600K which is a quarter of the price and offers around 25% better performance than the 1920X for single and quad core usage (most games only use a maximum of four cores). However, the 1920X is squarely aimed at offering value for money to multi-core workstation users and in this category, the 1920X is closer to competing with Intel's 15% dearer 10 core, 20 thread i9-7900X."

Thanks for the info. Dont care for brand, would this be the most bang for your buck in this price range? I'm using a 2k monitor.

motherboard kills the deal. You could get Ryzen 7 2700x for about $280 on ebay and the compatible motherboard can be as cheap as 70. x470 motherboards are around $100. The cheapest motherboard for TR is about $279.99 on B&H.

What would one be doing with 10-20 VM's? (honest question)

I work in IT, i've had this discussion with multiple co-workers who bought it at release for gaming...I told them unless they are going to be setting up an at home LAB to just go with an i7.
