Its like any hobby... the more you go down the rabbit hole the more expensive it gets and the quicker you approach the point of diminishing returns
This is the first pair of headphones that I've seen that won't clash with my gold teeth when I wear them. In for one
Fantastic price on the lcd 3, if you can afford it, it's an excellent headphone. I have this and the senhhiser HD650. this is a considerable upgrade over the senhhisers.

Headphones are like cars if it makes people understand things easier.

All of them still gets you from point a to point b. So if you are looking great value get a Corolla.

Then you have the bughatties, ferrari es, Aston Martins and rolls Royces.

Get what makes you happy, to hell with what others think.

LCD-4 is the 100ohm version not the updated 200ohm version. Here's a quote from Audeze.

Quote :
"he 200 ohm and 100 ohm versions of LCD-4 use the same magnetic circuit. The main difference between them is the 200 ohm version uses a diaphragm metal layer that is about half the thickness of the 100 ohm version (which would explain the doubling of impedance).

The thinner metal layer has several advantages:
A significant decrease in the mass of the diaphragm (as the weight of metal used was cut by half), this reduces the inertia of the diaphragm and results in a faster response.
Thinner metal layer makes the diaphragm more pliable to shock as thinner metal layer is more flexible. The tensioned diaphragm have higher compliance and lower resonant frequency.

The expected improvements are improved response at both ends, improved midrange transparency and more precise imaging. However, the thinner and more dense metal layer makes the manufacturing process longer and expensive."

For 2500 youd think they'd look better than WW2 aviator headsets

This makes the Audeze EL-8s I got from Adorama for $265 look like an insane deal.

If you have an expensive DAC and Headphone amp, perhaps.

There appears to be a glitch. It's limited to a 100 qty @ $2,795.00. A cool quarter of a million dollars. It's good 2 know at least they are discounted from the reasonable msrp of $3,995.00. Sigh of relief.
