toner requires a chip, costs more in the long run.
OEM price is about the same, but 3rd party options for the TN630/660 toner are about $10-15 each compared to $20-30 each for the chip enabled TN730/760. Problem is that it is hard to find MFC Brother lasers at a decent price nowadays that take the TN630/660. They are going for a higher price typically than their newer counterparts. Cheapest I saw was the MFCL3707 at BJs for about $140. Meanwhile, I can get the newer version 2710 from Amazon, B&H, or PM at Staples, OD, etc. and spend about $5-10 more a year on toner (I print about 800-1000 pages a year). Breakeven is 4-8 years considering upfront cost and toner differential over time. Hopefully by then the 3rd party toners will go cheaper for the TN730/760. But if you print a lot more than I do, then I can see how saving $10 on a toner cartridge will add up over time.

I don't know if older toner becomes more expensive to find. But for my old Epson WF610, I used to be able to pickup sets of 13-15 cartridges for $15 and now I can get 10 for $25.
For those that are curious about not being able to use aftermarket toner, it's super easy to replace the chip as shown here:

I have your situation. Have the Epson WF-2650 and noticed that the ink relacement for those are less than 50 pages, maybe even less than 30! Ridiculous! Thinking of switching to these...
I dont think I print out 800-1000 pages a year, maybe half of that. Still, this is a good offer and debating if I should switch from Epson to this. Are the ink cartridges for this printer around $70-90?

Have you had to buy new toner yet? How has the performance been?

This takes toner not ink and OEM goes for $40-$75 depending on capacity. 3rd party options are available for $20 to $30 Amazon that should get you 2,000 pages.

Yes, it was getting ridiculous with my Epson. And it finally got clogged so bad that I have wasted 2-3 ink cartridges trying to clear it. Even tried windex/alcohol trick. Even if I got it working again, I am not sure I want to spend another $25 on ink. What I am going for occasional color is using a cheap HP inkjet that works on their free 15 pages instant ink plan. This way I shouldn't have to pay for ink and can print up to 15 pages or photos in full color a month without charge. Hopefully then my only cost will be a paper and toner for this laser printer which would last me 2 years or more if it really handles 2,000 pages.

We have had the Brother HL-L2380DW Laser Printer for a long time and have loved the printer. It prints every time, no jams, and supports Google Cloud Print so we can print from our laptops, chromebooks, tablets, phones from anywhere. My only problem with it was when I had to copy multiple pages, I had to load each page manually on the glass, which was time consuming.

I saw the $99 price on Amazon for this one yesterday and had to buy it because of the multiple page feeder, fax is a bonus as well. Not that concerned about the chip enabled toner cartridges as there are multiple youtube videos showing how easy it is to remove the chip from your existing toner and move to a cheaper third party toner cartridge.

Whether to get this or wait for a this MFC or something similar to go on sale at Staples with a sweet $25 off $100 coupon? I like the fact that this unit has fax and an ADF.

Does this come with toner? I see below there are options of "printer with toner" and "printer with high yield toner." I read the reviews and one person said this comes with a starter toner cartridge but I'd rather check with someone from our group here. Also, if it does come with the starter cartridge, can I take the chip off that one and use that chip for a third party cartridge? Thanks! Smilie

No complaints about the performance. The duplex printing is nice. To keep costs down, I use generic toner cartridges (e.g Linkyo etc) from Amazon and they work fine. Only wish it would do duplex scanning.
