Just noting that the Outlet that comes with this kit will act as a repeater so place that in a good spot between your furthest devices and the hub and that will help.

Also make sure your hub is far enough away from your router to minimize that noise and interference.
I'd be hesitant. Smart things has been a great system. I've had it for close to three years now. But the Samsung influence is starting to happen. There is a new app with less functionality. A new api with less functionality. Currently, all the old stuff still works, but the writing is on the wall.

That said, I think we have another year or so. I'm hoping someone is as good as smart things by the time the golden age is over.
Can price match at Staples like the last time this deal was posted and get it for even less.

https://www.staples.com/samsung-s..._IM12GG501

Staples has it listed for $242.99, and their PM guarantee says they'll refund you 10% of the difference. So:
$99.99 - 10% * ($242.99 - $99.99) = $85.69

Check Amex offers too, I had one that I managed to claim going this route.

Does anyone have any experience with these products? The reviews on Amazon look pretty mixed regarding their reliability.

Got my kit exactly a year ago and love it. If you have foil faced insulation behind your walls, you may need some repeaters. Or if you have much rf interference and or a huge house

This is a good package. Hub is the previous version (V2, better hardware minus wifi in V3), which retails for about $80-$85. I've been waiting for a good offer as some friends that have this swear wonders compared to Vera, which I currently own (mostly because of webcore). I'm still hesitant to have a cloud dependent HA.

I recently got this and purchased a bunch of Homeseer switches. So far no complaints, everything working as expected. WebCoRE smartapp helps you get really fancy. The smartthings classic app is much better than the newer Samsung Smart things app.

Saw a similar deal from micro center probably about 6 months ago and everything the same except it also included a leak sensor which is the best device imo. But haven't seen that deal since

I got this when it also had a leak sensor for $10 more. It is great. I use them hard. No regrets. They are reliable and tie in with a lot. Monoprice garage door sensors work well (one on the mailbox and one on the garage door).

Gen 2. Only gen 2 has battery backup.

I concur with this …. changes have been made recently and they do not seem to fall in line with an open strong community based environment I am used to.

That being said... it's a decent and strong system. But my next system I will most likely transition to Hubitat or similar product.

Not even Samsung refers to the newest model as gen 3, or as an upgrade. The new 2018 model is essentially a lower cost version of the gen 2. True, the gen 3 has wi-fi capability if you cannot practically do wired Ethernet, but I'd much prefer wired Ethernet if you can.
