As others have said, 16 gauge is very thin, and is really only good for low power lights, etc. See the chart here[homedepot.com]. Costco has a pack of two 12 gauge 50' heavy duty extension cables with lighted ends (100' total) for $29 in most stores.
Here's the Amazon link[amazon.com] for a single 50' cord (the same one from Costco) for product detail reference.

Another Expired "Deal"? It is 1:58PM EST and it was notified to me 50 minutes ago. It was in effect from 6:00AM EST. Something's still wrong with the system.
The thing I do not know how to judge before buying is the quality of the vinyl jacketing.
I have an old GE all metal fan that might be from 1972 with the cord still intact. But cords that are 6 years old are brittle and splitting apart.
There is a big difference in the quality of plastics, specially coming from China, but it is rarely mentioned.
True to that. This past summer when it was just over 100F in the garage, the plug melted together with the leaf blower. I have the 25' heavy duty orange extension from home depot. Now I just have a dedicated leaf blower with a very long cord.
