The detector is undetectable in practice. The Spectre isn't designed to be handheld like that in the first place and even if it was, you could always turn the detector off. :p The officer is more likely to see it visually than they are to pick it up with an RDD.
Fortunately RD's are legal most everywhere in the US (with the exception of VA, Washington DC, Military bases, commercial vehicles over 10k lbs, and any vehicle over 18k lbs.) For your everyday driver, undetectability isn't important, but it's good to know that the detector is stealth should you need that feature.
Everyone please use Waze...it is free..mark those speed traps in real time...
Saw this,
I've done some testing with the Spectre Elite, the newest and most effective radar detector detector. I found that the R3 is completely undetectable to a nearby Spectre when driving by. The only time it's detectable is if an officer literally gets out of his car and holds the Spectre a few feet away from your detector and your detector is turned on. Otherwise, when out on the road, the R3 is undetectable.

But what if the cops have radar detector detectors?

That only matters if you drive through VA/DC. I usually just take mine down when I go through there and slow down a bit because they're so damn strict in that region. The penalties are beyond ridiculous.

Damn, you beat me to it. Knew about the commercial truck restriction, but had no clue about military bases. I've worked on a couple over the years and never took down my detectors. Must've just been lucky. They're strict as hell about moving violations on bases too.

Anyone have any idea if they ever get much cheaper than this- Black Friday and whatnot?
I ordered from Frys but still showing backordered, even though the stores do have them.
