Twice the space does not equal twice the price, there's premium associated with having that storage in 1 device. If you need a $45k work van to haul material, getting 2 $14k Corollas doesn't help nor make sense.
I saw someone mention that this doesn't work with a Note 8 -- As long as a device supports exFAT (and virtually all modern flagships do), it will theoretically support up to 2TB of external storage.

Long story short, this will work with a Note 8. The reason manufacturers say a device will support "up to 256GB" is because that was the largest available storage amount during the development/testing of the device. So 400GB, 512GB, etc. They will all work, up to 2TB.
I just looked at it in disk management and saw that 32MB was unallocated so I wiped the formatted partition and and re allocated/reformatted to recover those unused 32MB. shown above in the properties readings.

most, if not all, devices that say they will support SDXC should technically support up to 2TB.

I was considering picking up a 400GB once it hit this price for Switch. Then again, it might be awhile before I need a lot of space and it could come down more in a year.

I purchased this Sandisk 400GB card recently for about $138. Under properties formatted to file system NTFS it says

Used space 106,168,320 bytes and just to the right of that it says 101MB. overhead?

Free space 393,762,041,856 bytes and just to the right of that it says 366GB.

Capacity says 393,868,210,176 bytes and just to the right it says 366MB.

Is this correct?

When you format a storage medium, any medium (hard drive, flash drive, SSD, etc), some space will be occupied/reserved due to that formatting. So yes, it is completely normal.

This is a great deal. Too bad Note 8 does not officially support greater than 256 GB cards. Otherwise I'll get one.

I don't think a 400gb u3 microsd will be available any reputable seller for under $200 for several months (maybe during BF), and it probably won't drop down to $100 for at least a couple years.

I expect $100 will be the 2018 BF price for the 400gb Ultra, and if goes down to $80-90, it will likely sell out pretty quick,
