And reflect on whether or not you frequently find yourself falling victim to 'user error' when working with IT things.

One useful thing from the reviews: do NOT use the sketchy AF jinvoo app suggested by the mfg. use Smart Life instead.

These work fine with Alexa and the urlhasbeenblocked app.

Recommend NOT using the jinvoo app mentioned in documentation.

This guy infosecs.

I bought a wireless AC switch years ago and found out it was trying to phone home to Taiwan every 30 seconds with my SSID and wireless password. Shady, but not sure why they'd want it to begin with.

I blocked them from routing beyond the LAN and they still worked. Can't speak from experience on these, but just wanted to chime in that this is a very real concern and using them on an isolated LAN is a great idea if it works.

Does anyone know if these need a cloud connection to function? I want to control them on an isolated LAN.

No, these are WiFi plugs. No hub needed. I use a ton of WiFi smart devices beside my SmartThings hub because they're generally much cheaper.

I have 4 of these. Been using them for over a year with Alexa and Google home without any issues. I use the Smart Life app (do not use the Jinvoo app). The Jinvoo app runs constantly in the background.

I may pickup a couple more to use with my Christmas lights Cool

Does this work with the Tuya app as well? Usually anything that works with urlhasbeenblocked works with it.

There's no reviews atm. Seems like they were all deleted because reviewers are paid

Thanks for the info, may finally have a use for my Home Mini. Ordered 3 to control a fan and the upcoming Christmas lights.

One thing I noticed is that a lot of people are claiming Smart Life has started running in the background at all times (In the Play Store reviews).

The reviews only show up for the 4-pack. Fakespot gives it an F so buyer beware.

Can you be a little more specific? There are about a dozen apps in Google play named smart life. Thanks!
