Maybe I'll have to bookmark that page for around Black Friday then. Although I think $40 is as low as it goes then now.
My husband is a mail carrier so I have a little bit of insight on USPS. That would be horrible, IMO. The day after a holiday is always insane, the CCAs (carrier assistants, essentially substitutes for carriers who are out sick/injured) are out 12 hours on those days and that's with coming in on Sundays and on holidays to carry Amazon packages all day.
A regular week is 10 hours a day, 6 days a week (7 days a week for some very understaffed areas) for most of the substitutes, regulars work 40+ hours depending on whether they want overtime (you can request overtime or you can sign a list saying you'll only carry your own route or one saying you want 8 hours only). There is plenty of mail volume already, dropping delivery from 6 days a week to 5 isn't going to help anything and likely would hurt more than help, IMO.
Also, with their Amazon contract they'd have to deliver packages on Saturdays anyway, might as well deliver all the mail and reduce the amount of overtime they have to pay everyone. Any hours above 10 in a day are actually paid at double the regular rate so it likely would be more expensive in the long run to eliminate a day.
