Dumb idea. 610 BILLION defense budget and thinking Saturday and Monday mail delivery is where we need to cut back. I thinking your mom shouldn't have used lead paint in your room when you were a kid.

They aren't related because USPS is self-funded aka no federal funds are given to USPS.

USPS' problems started when they were forced to pre-fund healthcare for retired employees for 75 years. They were last profitable in 2006 which is the year that law went into effect. That's no coincidence, IMO.

Podium is that way ---->
actually it is subsidized by the chinese government. hence why you can get free shipping on items costing less than a dollar or even 50 cents.

Any idea how that requirement compares to what private companies are required to pre-fund, if they are required to at all?
And since this requirement has the USPS done anything to eliminate paid healthcare for retired employees if the cost is too high of a burden? I know my company has eliminated retirement health insurance for any new employees hired after 2015.

Not may, WILL. My carrier told me about this the other day. Thing is, for most people, this won't be a big deal as fewer people send mail these days. I send a stamped letter maybe 4 or 5 times a year, mostly for rebates. All my financial transactions are done either in-person or online. I bet this is true for most people. I have around 20 first class stamps that I probably won't fully use for years. When it's time to shell out for new ones, I think I'll be able to afford the extra buck or two. For older people, especially ones on limited budgets, it might hurt a bit but even then, not that much.

I just use the free stamps from those charities. The ones that include a stamp to mail them back a check. Same with those free dimes nickles and pennies.
