Text Editor with no line length limit - SOLVED - wordpad - DUH!!!

573 77 February 27, 2009 at 08:58 AM
Hi all,

I'm looking for a text editor that won't wrap a line of text after a certain length. Notepad does it after 1024 and I need something that will go at least 3000 characters.

Anyone know of one?

Thanks,

I'm just wondering why you need this...is it to keep soft and hard returns out?

Just messing with a flat file and it is to hard to compare records when it soft returns after 1024 characters.

Wordpad supports at least 65,000 characters per word. I was able to copy and paste 979,000 characters into a single line (209 pages of text in MS Word). However, at that point, things started to get kind of weird (the letters extended beyond the margin). However, 3000 characters fit just fine.

vi sucks for just editing text. I understand that people use it for certain automated processes, but when it comes to just typing and editing a single document, there are so many other programs out there that are far more intuitive and easy to use. Whenever editing anything in command line, I've been sticking to Nano.
