Grocery Store - Leaving a line and trying to get back in

Several times over the years I have had people leave the line with the stuff they want to buy in front of me and then expect to get the spot they *HAD* back. Why are people so selfish and if this is you that does this, tell me WHY you think you can morally do this and get think that you just come right back where you were? If you do this, why inconvenience others to have to move the items you want to buy?
Why not do what I do if I forget to get an item? :
1. I stay in line and buy those items, then go back to get the forgotten item and then go to the self-check out or 10 items or less line to check it out.
2. I take my entire basket of items and get out of the line to go get the item.
3. I get it next time.
This is what I do. I expect others to respect me the way I respect their time.
The other day, I was at Target. This man just up and left the line, he had items he wanted to purchase on the conveyor belt. I moved the items he wanted to purchase and put mine in front of his. He didn't say a word. While that turned out ok since he didn't say anything to me, it inconvenienced my life to have to move them. I shouldn't have to do this since he should have moved it since he just left it there. He was gone a good minute a least or so, not just a few seconds either.
I had another situation where a man had a big box at Walmart in the garden center area in front of me in line and another man that was checking out in front of him, so I was third in line. The man in front of me with the big box said to the cashier he'd be right back to get a shopping cart, but asked or told me nothing. He was gone for around a minute to a minute and a half at least since he had to go all the way to the other entrance to get a shopping cart since we were in the garden center.
I moved up, because he left the line. He comes back eventually and says to me something like this "Ma'am I was there before you." I told him "You left the line, you leave a line you lose the spot you had." I couldn't believe that the jerk in front of me was on his side which by the time then was paying. I don't understand why they think BOXES that are the property of WALMART hold their spots since they don't actually have spots if you leave?
If you think about it, on Black Friday for example, if "THINGS" held your spot, No one would go through the huge trouble of camping out for days on end for the sales, would they? They'd just leave, for example, a back pack or suit case or even a shopping cart or what have you with their name on it and return the next morning instantly have the first spot in line. He'd come back that morning time the store opens(like if it's 4a.m., they'd come back at 3:55a.m. to reclaim their spot). But in real life as we all know, real life DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY!! I am right, they were wrong.
I couldn't fathom myself when I leave a line that I should be able to reclaim the spot I had. I mean for example, if I was at Burger King, let's say 1 person was in front of me, another customer was ordering at the time. Let's say I forgot my purse. I go to my car real fast get it, come back. Now there's another person in line that wasn't there. I couldn't FATHOM going up to that person and telling them "I was there, that was my spot." I would get in the back of the line, because once I left the line, I had no more spot. That's how it really works. I have NEVER did something like that before in my LIFETIME and COULD NEVER FATHOM DOING THAT!!
I really feel like the man that left the line should have been MUCH MORE *****RESPONSIBLE***** in that if he needed a shopping cart, he should have gone to get one ***BEFORE**** he decided to get into a line. Also, he didn't ask if it was OK with me either, he just told the cashier which makes no sense at all. It would not have been OK with me since that's not how lines work. WHY do people think that it's "THEIR SPOT" when they aren't in line anymore? WHY are people like this?
My time is important to me too and as I said, I just don't do this kind of behavior if I leave a line. I don't think that I can just swoop back in like I never left. Lines don't EVER work that way unless someone is HOLDING the spot for you.
Also, let's say no one was there in line behind him when he did this and then I would have gotten there while he was gone, you want to make a bet he wouldn't have told me anything??? You know why, because I was there when he left, that's why he thought he could say something. WHY is that? If you are an irresponsible shopper to get everything you need **BEFORE** you enter the line, that's not my problem. I have lots of times forgotten items, but I choose to NOT EVER EVER inconvenience anyone else's lives over it though, that's the difference I am not SELFISH like these people are to just ONLY thinking of themselves and their time! I don't act like they should hold the spot I had. They are strangers and I don't expect them to care about me in that manner since they are strangers, not my friends or family. I could see if the man had asked me to hold his spot, I would have said "No", I am not going to hold your spot" and I also would have suggested him buy the box and have the cashier just hold it right by her register. I have had cashiers before watch my basket while I went with a manager to prove a wrong price on a shelf before and the cashier didn't let anyone steal my stuff(since I did pay for it at that point it was my stuff, not the store's items). That's one thing he could have done as well, but he chose to leave a LONG TIME all the way to the other entrance. Why should I care about his time if he was this mean to confront me? I am GLAD the jerk had to wait. He deserved it. What hurt though was that the man in front of me actually agreed with him. The cashier though didn't get involved. You know why she didn't get in involved, because I was right, that's why. If I would have been wrong, she would have corrected me, for sure.
WHY, do you do this if you do this? WHY if you do this, why are you so SELFISH and inconvenience other people's lives over it if **YOU** forgot something or didn't get a shopping cart? I wouldn't EVER do that to you, so don't do it to me! WHY is the world so selfish? Can't people be thoughtful of other people's time to inconvenience THEMSELVES if they forget or don't get a cart first? Why inconvenience my life because **YOU** didn't get a shopping cart BEFORE you got in line? NOT MY PROBLEM! WHY inconvenience my life if you forgot to get an item? NOT MY PROBLEM! Don't delay my life for yours when I have NEVER and WILL NEVER do that to you! Treat others as you'd like to be treated if they were you.
So please tell me WHY you think you have a moral right to do this if you are one of those people that does this kind of stuff? I'd like to know your answer honestly and why you wouldn't do what I do instead of being so selfish? Why not be CONSIDERATE of other people's time and feelings by not delaying their lives for yours? Also, WHY O' WHY do you people that do this think "OBJECTS" hold the spot you had, especially ones you don't even own yet?

I am surprised the OP's female. I thought all these post were the work of some cranky old homo curmudgeon.
Secondly, it doesn't matter if I am in a hurry or not. The time the Walmart box guy left, at the time I was laid off and was not in a hurry at ALL, NOT ONCE bit. I had nothing to do. I did what I did, because of PRINCIPLES AND MORALS, NOT because I was in a hurry. I am not going to let someone leave a line and get back in when I don't do that to anyone. If I can't reclaim the spot I had, it's SOOOO NOT FAIR for anyone else to be able to do so. I live by morals and doing what is right. I also wanted to make a point to the guy that he needs to get his shopping cart BEFORE he gets in line in the future.
Thirdly, nobody loves waiting even if they aren't in a hurry, so having a conversation about something personal shouldn't happen delaying someone else. If no one is waiting behind you, do what you please, but if someone is waiting, be thoughtful to their feelings and time.
It really doesn't matter WHAT the reason. Nobody wants to wait and that's the point here of how can people hold up others without thinking about that concept that nobody loves waiting.
Lighten up, Frances...
I've seen that frequently on some Twitter accounts.
FINE, I'LL USE ALL CAPS NOW. NO RANDOM CAPITALIZATION. IS THIS BETTER?Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.
Cheers!
For example, the one old c word almost ran over the back of my feet running to get into the line behind me. Then she almost ran my feet over again once it was my turn to check out. Had I not reached back and stopped her cart she would have and that would've been a whole separate conversation as I would've shoved some of the cans in her cart in her face along with both of my fists.
If you're THAT pressed for time, go when the store ISN'T usually busy (later at night, very early in the morning) or learn to be patient or schedule your oh so important bullshit further apart from your shopping trip(s).
In this life, you should inconvenience just YOURSELF, NOT OTHERS when you make a mistake! That's what a "GOOD" person would do. Same thing I do in traffic, I will go make a u-turn instead of holding up everyone else's lives because I didn't get into the lane I needed to be in sooner. I don't punish everyone else for my issues. That's just mean, inconsiderate, and selfish to do so. That's not a good person. A good person does what I do, gets in the back of the line when they forget an item.
who said I would do this if anyone is in line behind me? You are assuming way to much and wonder if no one has ever treated you with kindness and or a nice word or smile. What goes round comes round, so if you are kind to others good karma will seek you out.
when you missed those price mistake deals?
I think if their time is so valuable they should find more efficient ways to shop versus getting mad at other people for having to wait. Numerous places deliver groceries and other essentials now. So why not use one of those services?
Besides which if the line is moving slow as hell, who is harmed if the person in front of you jumps out of line to grab one thing they forgot if the person in front of them aren't even done with their order yet?
