The entire game is a grind designed to get you to spend money on microtransactions. I'm not super anti-mtx but when you're supposedly paying full price for a game and then can't even enjoy it unless you drop another $60 on it it's a scam. The multiplayer community is toxic when it comes to playing with lower level players, filling your initial hours with the game with trying to find out how to exploit the single player just so you can upgrade your player to be good enough that people will even be okay with playing with you. All of the above not even touching the fact on how the multiplayer meta is 100% intentionally focused on being able to use only one player archetype - the 3 point shooter. Go to the 2k subreddit and you can find tons of posts where someone with a character built to dunk will miss a wide-open layup and wasn't even given the choice to dunk, then that person's defender will get the ball, run off the 3pt line to the same distance as Steph Curry or Trae Young, and drain a shot even through smothering defense. 2k only changes the parts of the game that are going to maximize their money making (see: 2k18) and have made no attempt to try and balance the game out, otherwise the little kids that user their parents' credit cards to make a character just like their idol 3pt god would freak out and stop spending money. I feel like it's the best interest of sports gamers everywhere to not support a predatory company and predatory series. Not to mention that you go through my entire post again next year before the next season starts
Great deal, horrible game. Don't support it if you want something better
This the best explanation yet!!

If you're looking for a nba game to recreationally play with friends. $40 is a good price to get a relatively new game. If you're looking to play competitively like ranked games, my player modes, my team, etc. you're gonna get frustrated. Tons of micro transactions as usual. Server issues.

I 100% agree. After playing 2k and NBA Live before that for 25 years, this is the year I give up. I have a full time job, a wife, and kids. I cannot waste time grinding for badges. And while I can afford it, I absolutely refuse to buy VC out of principal. It's one thing if you do it once every 5 years for a new title. It's another when it's an annual title and you have to spend 200hrs+ grinding every fall or else get crushed in multiplayer.
If you are buying to play season or franchise, get it. But if you're gonna do myCareer, save yourself the pain.
Sort of related now that 2K bought out Playgrounds - I heard the first one is no longer available since Playgrounds 2 is so super grindy to the point where you almost have to fork out the extra money to unlock everything...
Anyone know if there is a way to get the first Playgrounds. Sorry to thread cap!

Worth getting a trial of EA Access to try out NBA Live. I tried Live 18 and it was a blast, about to trade it in because the reviews say 19 improved on that and likely by 20 it'll be a serious contender for 2k. Wish it would be competitive already though so the industry would strive for innovation but the yearly 2k fans are diehards
Thanks OP ! Got my code fast after payment. My friends love this game and this years game is the best in years! Got last years 2k and played it for 2 weeks, this one I was worried about being bad again, but its much better than last years 2k.
