FYI much better laptops can be gotten on ebay for 50 less than this.

Browse this link. It is an ebay link searching for i5 8gb ssd, sorted to only include buy it now and to be listed from least price to greatest.

Some notable computers:

Here is a 12.5 inch touch screen lenovo with 8gb of ram, 180gb ssd, and a second generation i5 for 125 shipped.

14 inch, i5, 240 gb ssd, 8gb of ram, 125 shipped

So after you add memory, and ssd, and change out the screen you're up to about $320 and a bunch of hassle for an old laptop. Ebay is just flooded with decent laptops from the last 3 years or so in the $200-$300 range. And there's no shortage of old i5's or i7's with 4gb and 720p screen like this for sub $200. Even sub $150.

Good deal on a nice laptop. Be aware this does not have dedicated right and left "mouse" keys over the trackpad. Rather, the trackpad "tilts" in those corners when pressed. I've gotten used to it (the 440 is my work computer since 2013 - they keep trying to replace it but I've got it all set the way I want, so no). But dedicated keys are much better.

Just bought the T430 that was listed the week before last - I would have gone with this instead, even without the dedicated keys.

Also it needs 8gb RAM and a SSD to really shine. But you all knew that.

EDIT: the T430 was also a B-grade. But honestly it was in great shape with only wear on the corners. Arrow does a nice job.

Also an IPS 1080 screen for about $50. Not too difficult to replace.

Having been using Lenovo :
  • Lenovo T series: always durable and reliable.
  • CPU: M cpu much faster than U cpu while battery time shorter.

Lenovo makes pretty good PCs, but they should re-name this line to "Thick Pad". So many of their laptops are, but I guess that's somewhat common with workstations.
