shopping for a new processor and came across this deal. CPU is a new release and is $30 off right now. Select combo deals and the first option bundles new COD for -$59 (free). shipping is free.
for gaming at anything under 4k resolutions, this CPU is probably the best bang for the buck right now. performs equal or better than previous generation i7-8700k, and is half the price of the top tier 9900k for 90% of the performance.

If only there was a ~$400 bundle deal for the 9600K with a good Z390 motherboard to push this thing to 5-5.2GHz. That would be a perfect combination for gaming.
Unlike the 9900K and the 9700K, the 9600K has been shown to easily hit 5-5.2 GHz on all 6 cores without exotic custom loop cooling (https://www.guru3d.com/articles-p...iew,1.html). However, good Z390 boards, like the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master, are like $290. Not sure if the boards offered on the OP's Newegg link page (the ASRock Z390 PHANTOM GAMING SLI/ac for $168, or the ASRock Z390 Extreme4 for $177) have good enough VRM's to handle such high overclocks. Judging from Hardware Unboxed' most recent Z390 MoBo roundup, most likely the won't (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZcqw-K1drY&t=4s).
EDIT: Just checked the VRM's on the above 2 boards and they seem to be fine, esp. on the Extreme4. Asrock's product page claims it has a 12-phase VRM design, which should be plenty for ~5GHz all-core OC of 9600K. So this $427 + tax combo makes OP's deal sweeter. The tax sucks for those of us in CA though.
I believe there are plenty of motherboards with good enough power delivery to push this upwards of 5.0 ghz. Unless money is no object, I agree with Anandtech's review article. The i5 9600k, the i7 9700k, and the 2700x are the smarter choice for gamers instead of the i9 with consideration to the current gouging. Processors faster that this i5 give very little benefit in 99% of gaming scenarios. I have not seen a single instance where the i9 can make a game playable that the i5 cannot. The largest gains are found at 1080p resolution, and at that point higher end graphics cards are pushing 150 frames per second or more... really inconsequential, to be honest.
Now waiting for this to show up with my z390 and noctua!

9900k way over priced and has HT.
9700k over priced no HT but runs cooler and maybe OC a bit higher.
9600k priced a bit high for no HT and only 6 cores. Runs coolest and OC a bit higher. Great for gaming at 2k and 4k rez and keeps up with other 2 chips but falls behind in MT tasks. Great bang for you buck gaming CPU.
Just my opinions fyi. I may just grab this deal as I mostly game and do basic PC stuff.
