The logic behind the change from "regular" premium to "family" premium without being charged $15 may be:

Original $1 purchase gives you $30 value
3 months × $10 regular premium price = $30 value

Then, upgrading to family plan redistributes
2 months × $15 family premium price = $30 value

Once upgraded to family premium, the paid $1 period cannot downgrade back to regular premium.
Meaning the 2 month period cannot return to 3 month period for this $1 deal.
