no one knows when promotion will expire. limited time.
quick summary:
the intent of this promotion was to get people to trade in older iphones towards purchase of a new iphone
however.
~11/27/18 to 12/20/18
apple was giving upto 2x on trade in without requiring purchase of anything
there was no limit
so for a iphone 6s, u would get $200 in a gift card.
with the metro deal, people would get 4 x 6s from metro for $160.
then trade them into apple for 4 x $200 gift card ($800)
some people did this multiple times
~12/20/18 after seeing the abuse apple changed the promo to:
(note for iphone 6s only below numbers apply)
$200 for a trade in with purchase today
$200 for a trade in of a previous purchase
$100 for a trade in gift card
some apple store require a purchase of a iphone xs,,xs max, xr
some apple store will allow on the above as well as iwatch /ipad
no one knows what your apple store will require, so best to go and find out for yourself

Apple has lowered ALL of the Extra Credit on all trade in towards a new iphone, lowering to -$50 on each iphone model trade in. Check out the lower values on the apple website. :-(
