Been an active price searcher of Prius Prime in the New England area, Got this awesome deal (email Ad) from DCH Toyota . They are offering $3500 dealer Discount in addition to the $3500 offered by Toyota.

Here is the Calculation for the Plus trim (specifically at this dealer- though most dealers in the region should honor/match this pricing):

Prius Prime Plus: MSRP 28500 (Usually in the range of $28300-28800 - depends on the add ons)
Dealer discount:$3500
Toyota rebate: $3500
Federal tax rebate: $4500
Net price: $ 17000 before taxes and Doc fees.

Additional options for New England buyers: $1250 - College grad discount, $750 Military Discount.

EDIT: 1.Changed the title to Tax credits (from Rebates), Added a line on state incentives
2. Removed the link of the said dealer (DCH toyota of milford) as the offer got over.
3. Updated with new rebates for Jan 2019.

How does the EV tax credit work?
You get a tax credit of $2500-$7500 ($4502 for the Prime) depending on the size of the battery when you file your tax in 2019. You have to have tax liability to get the credit. Some examples of buying the Prime (single tax filer estimates):
Income: $40,000
Taxes withheld: $3000
Liability: $3170, you would normally owe $170 if you didn't buy a Prime.
Refund in April: $3000

Income: $40,000
Taxes withheld: $4000
Liability: $3170, you would normally get a refund of $830 you didn't buy a Prime.
Refund in April: $4000

Income: $60,000
Taxes withheld: $5500
Liability: $6500, you would normally owe $1000 if you didn't buy a Prime.
Refund in April: $3502

Income: $60,000
Taxes withheld: $7500
Liability: $6500, you would normally get a refund of $1000 you didn't buy a Prime.
Refund in April: $5502

Actual formula for people that want to calculate their own examples:
NEW Tax Liability after Prius Prime EV credit = Original Liability - $4502 (if negative, New Liability = $0)
Refund/Owe = Taxes withheld - New Liability (positive value = refund, negative value = you owe government)

Want to know if you qualify for the full $4502 tax credit?
Use TurboTax and put in your estimated income to see your tax liability. It's free to just calculate. I think it's around $51k for single without kids to have a tax liability of $4502. The EV tax credit is not available yet so you won't be able to see your refund amount. If you have kids, your income will have to be much higher. Contact a tax pro.

Can I buy more than one EV/PHEV and get tax credit?
Yes, there is no limit on how many you can buy in a tax year, you will get the tax refund of all the EV/PHEV you've bought during that year, so long as the total credit amount is less than your tax liability. Otherwise, you will only get the tax liability refund. Use tax form 8936. The form only has 2 columns, but you can add more if you buy more than 2 in that year.

CA should also have 1500 for the Cvrp thing. Not as good as those incentives in the cold states, but should help you get closer.

Can I go to a dealership in those areas and buy a car with those discounts/incentives/rebates/tax savings if I live in the Midwest (Michigan)?

Most Massachusetts dealers should be able to to price match this. So I would say most of New England.

You should be able to- But do factor in the hassle of paperwork, flying down to Boston, transporting/driving the car Back.

Refer to the Prius Prime Prices paid thread on Priuschat website. There were people who flew down from Florida, Texas etc, took delivery from dealerships in New England and drove their cars back. WOuld be an interesting road trip if not for the winter.

Dealer discounts are never real or the car for the discounts was sold weeks ago.

True in most cases (these car dealers are real con artists) , but I guess in this case the dealers are offering real good discounts.

Infact my friend bought Prius Prime in October for $4000 dealer discount and $3000 Toyota rebate(Back in October the rebate was a bit lower for the Prime) . The dealer was Prime Toyota rt 2.He did his research pretty well and negotiated hard to get that price.

This was what triggered my interest in the Prius Prime. Have been researching for the last 2 months since the day my friend got a steal deal. Sadly Prime toyota rt 2 sold out their Prius primes pretty fast, before I could act. Many other buyers reported good dealer discounts in the region. Just have a look at the priuschat price discussion forums. You'll see what I am talking about.

I also got deal and so far so good. Hopefully taxes work out and get $4500 next year ! I tend to have issues when filling gas . Forget the process and locating gas lid button .
