What's with all these 8 speed reels? It's getting ridiculous. 7 is plenty for topwater and certainly plenty for worms and jigs.

they say for heavy cover type fishing it's to take up line quick so as to keep the fish from diving into the slop and hanging up. the real reason? more fishing stuff

My dad is one who thinks the faster the speed, the better you are, because you can always slow down if you need to. Why not save yourself a couple of turns every cast? *shrugs*

I'm pretty sure even if it's not "rated" for saltwater you can still fish it in the salt... as with any reel you fish in the salt (or even fresh IMHO), lightly rinse it down after. Then button the drag down and spray it with higher pressure if desired. As long as your not dropping this in the sand or frequently dunking it in saltwater, I think it will hold up just fine.
